Ok, seems easy, but lightning lure, if I'm reading it correctly allows you to use it against an adjacent target target for an automatic 1d8 lightning. Am I interpreting this wrong?
Both the pull 10 feet and the lightning damage effect first require that the enemy fail their Str save. Spells that do *automatic* damage are very rare, andand certainly include no cantrips.
It's a strength save to avoid being pulled into some sort of temporary lightning trap. The save doesn't directly prevent the damage, it prevents the pull and thus the damage also doesn't happen.

Particularly, because the save and the damage are both in one sentence.
That makes sense, thanks.
Strength save to not take damage from a lightning spell? What is going on here?
