l was reading another thread and someone mentioned it. what is it? l get that its one tier higher then 9th but other than that, what is it? why is it not mentioned in the spell lists or whatever? they said it happens when multiple lv 9 spells are used together? its this thread BTW
I think the lore reason behind the rule change is that a powerful Wizard cast a high level spell that f**ked up all magic, so the goddess of magic made a new limit (abridged version).
There are ways around it that usually involve multiple casters and shortening lifespans. Some more lore I heard was that the elves used to do this until they got tired of all their talented mages dying from it.
Yeah, 10th level spells are basically lore only spells responsible for all the 'permanent' magical effects that exist in the world. The reason you can't as a player use 10th level magic ranges from "it takes hundreds of wizards" to "it would kill even a god" to "the goddess of magic has removed them from the world" to "it would destroy the weave and thus is no longer possible".
Nice Voyager reference there. It’s a shame that that episode complicated advancements in Star Trek FTL technologies, but it made for some interesting television, and provides a model for scaling problems with spells, tech and class features. My head canon for 10th level spells is that only immortals can use it, and the first spell you cast inflicts immortality upon the caster, or an intended target. It’s really a fun thought experiment, and it make’s for some interesting story elements.

Life revolves around conflict. Never do we cease to question our place in the wider world nor end our struggles, both internal and external. Always, we are seeking an answer or solution. Always, we are journeying ever onward, seeking new horizons and new obstacles to overcome. For life revolves around conflict, and with it life has a chance to grow, to become more and change into something new...
Yeah, 10th level spells only "exist" in the sense of providing a clear distinction between mortal adventurers and deities capabilities. It's there in the lore as a sort of "you will never be this powerful, but we can conceive characters striving to become close to this.) type of thing.

There are no official 10th-level spells. They were a thing in earlier editions of the game, which is what people in that thread are talking about.
ah,ok. thanks. (though lt gives me some ideas for homebrew)
