I have an Teifling Ranger lv 9, Druid lv 1, favored terrain forest and mountain, archetype hunter, favored enemies are beasts and dragons. Would it be possible for her to be able to have a Giant Bat familiar/animal companion?
It has always been possible to have pets and NPC allies that aren't granted by class features, but they are more up to DM discretion (they dont require sidekick rules, but sidekick bonuses were created to make such NPCs more useful/survivable).
I love giant bats! They are so cool! I'm giving the players in my group the choice to pick (out of a bunch of other baby abominations) a giant bat pup that's colored like a border collie. I've never had a pet giant bat, but that's only because I don't play much, just dm. For your question, I usually just don't let pets/companions fight in combat. I do like the new rule of sidekicks, but I make sure to have companions be a few level behind the pcs otherwise the players might feel that they are better than them. That is not ok. I think u said that you're a Ranger of above 3rd level. If u chose beast master at 3rd level than u could choose a giant bat cuz they're only 1/4 cr. I'm pretty sure it has to be medium or smaller but it's close enough that your dm might allow it (Giant bats r large for their size). This reply might come too late, but I guess other players or dms could learn from it.

Per the rules right now, no. BUT if your DM uses the play test Side Kick rules then yes.
