I was wondering whether or not the 1d8 affects non-damaging spells such as cure wounds that require a dice roll. The description of from Eberron: Rising of the last War reads as follows
"When you cast an artificer spell through the firearm, roll a d8, and you gain a bonus to one of the spell's damage rolls equal to the number rolled."
Although the spell is being cast through the arcane firearm, you're not technically rolling damage die since its a healing spell but i'm not too sure. Thoughts?
I think you have it interpreted correctly. See the UA Wildfire Druid level 6 ability Enhanced Bond (which works for damage and healing) for how it would be worded otherwise: “one roll of the spell” versus “damage roll.”
A healing roll isn't the same thing as a damage roll, and I'm pretty sure none of the healing spells artificers have access to have material components anyways.
Thanks for imput. I only asked because I came into a situation where a player of mine cast cure wounds and added an extra 1d8 through the use of arcane firearm. Although i thought the idea that spell cast from an arcane firearm would be enhance in some shape of form after reading the description of arcane firearm i kinda had my doubts. The class is still pretty fresh for me and my party so working out the kinks.

I agree with the others. The spell needs 2 things to get the d8, a damage roll and a material component.
All artificer spells require a focus, not just material component spells.
That's... True.
