Guidance request:. I skinned a few Crocs and want to make armor out of them. So 1) why would the AC be? On the crock it's a 14, so use that? 2) is it light, med, or heavy armor? Don't see any crafting info in PHB

Prob be equivalent to scale in medium.
as crocs are closer to that then leather for light.
I would treat it as leather armor, or if you want to make it a little special, treat it as studded leather to represent it being a little tougher than typical leather. Both are light armor. 14AC would be equivalent of scale mail. You could do this as well, but I think the best call if you do so would be to describe it as somewhat bulkier, therefore making it medium armor and giving disadvantage on stealth checks just like normal scale mail. But it wouldn't be metal so there's one situational perk. Plus it's pretty cool looking and that counts for a lot, at least at my table.
None of these are magical, so you're basically just taking mundane armors and reskinning (pun intended) them as crocodile scale armor.
You could always ask the PC to make a Leatherworker's Tools check, and have the resulting AC of the armor based on check result? 0-10 it's Hide Armor (Medium, 12 AC), 10-15 it's Studded Leather (Light, 12 AC), 15-20 it's maker's choice between chain shirt equivalent (Medium, 13 AC) or scale mail (Medium, 14 AC, stealth disadvantage), 20+... their choice of one of the prior options, but with a +1 enhancement? Something like that.
In real world crocodile skin is equivalent to leather. So, I'd say it's leather armour or studded leather depending on the check result.

Having the check spectrum range from Leather -> Hide -> Studded Leather could also work if you don't want to intrude on metal armors (with a +1 enhancement for truly exception check results). But if not crocodiles, you gotta be open to SOME sort of critter providing you materials for metal-equivalent armors made out of leather or bone for your party Druid.
Is it really intruding on metal armors though? I think having a non-metal version of an armor that is normally metal is a pretty interesting and mostly harmless way of giving someone a thing that is very slightly enhanced, but in a purely situational way. Maybe they take point when fighting the rust monster or an evil sorcerer tries to cast heat metal on them and then can't figure out why it doesn't work.
I would still make croc skin scale mail impose disadvantage on stealth though, simply for the bulkiness.

Throw a curveball for you too...
crocodile scale mail... might also have a smell to it.
If you personally want to turn the hide into usable armor I would have you make a skill check and base the AC off the roll. At best it's 15 or 16 AC, your skill in leatherworking toughened up the natural hide and at worst it's 12 or 13, your lack of skill put holes in it. Middle ground it's 14 as that is the natural AC of a croc. Either way it shouldn't be scale mail unless your character has a reason to know how to make mail armor. If you want an NPC to fashion the hide into armor there is more leeway on the AC, leather vs. mail and you could make it magical for an increased cost.

I'm going to make this way harder than it needs to be.

Either leather or hide I'd say.
