Can anyone help me with slams, takedowns and strangles. Like when somone successfully grapples a creature, what are the rules for attempting to slam them? Or even strangling them?
Instead of using a weapon to make a melee weapon attack, you can use an unarmed strike: a punch, kick, head-butt, or similar forceful blow (none of which count as weapons).

Basically, you grapple them so they can't move and knock them prone so they can't get up without breaking the grapple.

Tooltips (Help/aid)
The takedown, I believe, you mean taking a creature prone and that is the Shove attack. It work similarly to the grappling.
Strangle, you can refer to the Suffocating rules.
Slam creature, I believe it is up to the DM to decide upon the situation.
