Let's say my character is wielding a javelin and a shiend (i.e. the javelin is my only melee weapon). I throw the javelin and hit. Do I get the +2 damage from the dueling fighting style? I guess technically the moment I throw it I'm not technically holding it, but I wanted to be sure :-)
From what I've read, yes the Dueling and Archery fighting styles are tied to the weapon type, not the attack type. The Javelin is a melee weapon with the Thrown property, so throwing it for an attack with a Shield on your other arm does get the +2 damage bonus from the Dueling style, and it would NOT get the +2 to the attack roll from the Archery style, since while you're making a ranged attack you're not doing so with a Range weapon.
Yes, it's a one-handed melee weapon, so it counts for Dueling. The fighting style doesn't care how you attack with the weapon.

Hello all, I've got a quick question:
Let's say my character is wielding a javelin and a shiend (i.e. the javelin is my only melee weapon). I throw the javelin and hit. Do I get the +2 damage from the dueling fighting style? I guess technically the moment I throw it I'm not technically holding it, but I wanted to be sure :-)
Any help would be much appreciated
