I tried making a new character now with Tasha's new custom rules but I noticed that it won't let me change the ability score racial trait to whatever I want and when leveling up my character, it doesn't let me pick a different class feature where applicable.
Is this a bug or do I simply just have to enter it myself?
For "Custom Lineage", side box on page 8: "Instead of choosing one of the game's races" - the question came up whether a player could choose to make something like a Star Elf if they qualify for elven racial feats from XGtE. I know this is the GM's decision for home games; however I am asking for official purposes, such as Adventurers League. (I know PHB +1; however there are often rewards that unlock extra material beyond PHB +1 and I wanted to know if there is an official answer for that purpose.)
If there isn't an official ruling, that's fine. Please don't respond to the post with "GM decision" or "PHB +1" answers as neither of these apply to my questions as explained above.

No. There is nothing in the RAW that allows custom lineage to be a subrace.
I appreciate both replies, Memnosyne - I did see that; however I don't know if that rule will last more than a season...everything changes. Can't tell you how many "historical" characters I have that I couldn't rebuild anymore.....
It is honestly not really better than variant human. The +2 instead of 2 +1s is worse for min-maxing. Being small is barely worse than medium, but not better. So the only real benefit is swapping a skill for darkvision (and you can even get darkvision super easy with 1 level dip into twilight cleric).

A major perk of the Custom Lineage is that it allows for a character to start with an 18 in the primary stat at level 1. (+2 Racial, +1 Racial Feat).
For a SAD build, that's pretty potent, and let's a player hit the cap by level 4, rather than level 8. Perhaps not optimal for level 12+ campaign, but definitely makes a difference over the life of an average campaign and one shots.

Oh. I didn't think about that. That is good. Ok, I concede that it is a decent alternative to variant human.

The character sheet updates, including this, are not live yet. I read that they should be by the end of the day hopefully.
Yes hopefully. Sweet!

I think this might be fixed now (according to linked thread). I haven't had time to test anything yet.
It is and it's a lot of fun!

You can find Adventurer's League rules on the Official Discord channel, in short:
Proficiency replacements for races are allowed.
Custom Lineages, however, are not used in AL.
For other official purposes, mileage may vary.

Guess they'll address it one day.....maybe?
