I have a concept for a druid character I might be using in an upcoming game. It will probably be either this or the centaur I concept I posted a couple days ago. But I had an idea related to an animal companion and thought it might be a good idea to get a second opinion on possible stats.
One of the big things about this character is she really, really loves birds, and I had the idea of giving her an animal companion to reflect that. The strange thing is I had the idea of her companion being a chickadee. I know, maybe an unorthodox choice, but chickadees are really amazing birds. Only problem is that DND doesn't seem to have official stats for small birds. So I have to do some guesswork.
The smallest bird that is available seems to be a raven, which is significantly larger than a chickadee. They have an armor class of 12 and HP of 1. Most smaller animals seem to have 1 HP so that might be a logical starting point, though there would be the question of armor class. A raven's is 12, a chickadee's is much smaller. But a chickadee probably would have the advantage of agility, making it harder to hit. I'm not sure if there would be specific stats for that.
According to google, the average flight speed for a chickadee is about 20 KM per hour, but I'm not sure how well this would translate into a tabletop format. It might be too much from a gameplay perspective.
I would use the raven, but lower the Strength to 1 (-5), get rid of Mimicry, increase the Dexterity to 16 (+3), and increase the Armor Class to 13.

I confess I have been guilty of mixing up dexterity and constitution, but if I'm understanding correctly dexterity is more about movement and and reaction while constitution is more about being able to withstand punishment.
Chickadees are pretty agile and can react quickly so it would make sense to put more on dexterity. Plus I noticed potential use for a chickadee for stealth purposes. A chickadee can quickly move to vantage points with a good view without being noticed... and if it is seen... well it's just an inconspicuous little bird nobody will think much of. They'd also be good for getting into tiny spaces.
So increased dexterity and reduced constitution. I can work with that.
The raven's AC comes from a standard calculation for unarmored AC: 10 + Dex mod. Same for its hp (1d4 + Con mod) and to hit bonus (Dex + Proficiency). Maybe a chickadee would have higher Dex but lower Con than a raven. I would say you can start from the Raven stat block, adjust its stats thematically, and be pretty close. Charisma up, Strength down.
20 kph is 109 feet per 6 second round. If this is the max speed, that corresponds to dashing, so base fly speed is 55 feet, which is pretty close to the raven's 50 feet.
Mimicry seems to be an ability specific to ravens. Maybe you could substitute some other ability, like give it the bard's Song of Rest or something.

Is it? Thanks for letting me know. I can repost over there. I'll also look at the tiny bird stats you mentioned.
that creature is not in the real SRD: http://media.wizards.com/2016/downloads/DND/SRD-OGL_V5.1.pdf
Use the raven and lower STR & CON maybe. Just add 1 to AC as, yeah, it might be harder to hit. I wouldn't bother with adjusting the speed.
