Xavian water genesis druid, he can only wild shape into a black cat at will. Everything else is a D4 roll based on each cr group. Xavian needs a good backstory!! Has Urban Bounty Hunter background. Please take all stats and feat into consideration^^!
Str:6
Dex:15
Con:14
Int:10
Wis:20
CHa:13
this is my first ever character so having hard time getting a good backstory i can get behind and rp
my dm want to see a rough draft so he can work them into the campaign giving everyone more freedom with there characters only idea someone gave me is that he is really a cat cursed to be a water ganasi. it is funny but not 100% sold on it and for personality he is weak not very bright and is clumsy which kinda reflects his stats but further than that im not sure oh and he was made chaotic neutral but i tend to do evil stuff><
Xavian was a bright eyed detective in the big city of (name). He came from a (tribe/town/thing) which had a Druidic past and often when clues couldn’t be found his magic provided new insights. However he began to notice something. Members of larger gangs were often not charged or set free. He worked to uncover the corruption and eventually found what he thought to be the source. Gathering his findings he sent them to the chief of police
They responded by discharging him. He was disgusted at what he saw but still endeavored to do good. So he started a private eye business. He spent his days helping the little foke while gathering evidence for case however he was shocked by the sheer number of people that came for him. He saw the police weren’t getting to a fourth of the cases. They were just putting on a show while letting people suffer. Then soon after a famous (politician/noble) was revealed to be corrupt and leading a gang. He lost faith in the system and began taking seeder cases. Soon he wasn’t just hunting criminals.
After a while he wondered whether he was better then the criminals he hated and he found himself turning toward his Druidic roots. The magic gained by them helped in his cases but he realized there was a better way to use it. So he (joined the party in some way) in hopes for riches and secretly to try and do some good.
TLDR Noir druid that lost faith in the world. Maybe the adventuring can restore it or drive him deeper into his cynicism
Dex 15 isn't clumsy and Int 10 is average intelligence which is definitely not "not very bright" particularly when combined with the situational awareness and keen observation abilities one would expect from a 20 Wis. On average intelligence, bear in mind the words of George Carlin who said "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that." Chances are pretty good that you regularly interact with people on a daily basis that, were they D&D characters, would have an Intelligence score of eight or lower and they presumably manage to function just fine for the most part. Lacking impressive intelligence doesn't mean someone is dumb. Player characters in D&D are intended to be extraordinary individuals opposed to commoners who have a flat 10 in everything, so a 10 Int isn't dumb and a 15 Dex would qualify him to be a professional dancer or even acrobat of notable skill with the right proficiencies on his character sheet, at least enough to make a living as an entertainer from those skills. Or learn to use Sleight of Hand to stack a deck and bottom deal to maintain a favorable win rate at poker while being observant enough to notice when someone might be onto him so he should back off on the cheating for a bit until they relax.
An "urban bounty hunter" could be a detective type, or you could flip it a little and use the same skillset to be a "problem solver" for a gang or nefarious character that want's to make problematic people or evidence disappear, or make problematic individuals "reappear" for their enforcers to have a "chat" with. He could be professional thief who uses his criminal contacts to inform him of high value targets to steal from. Even just turning into a cat at will can help enormously with moving about a city unnoticed while tracking and observing targets for any of those reasons. He'd better know some decent combat spells because otherwise, with a Str of 6 and the inability to selectively wildshape into an appropriate form, he ain't going to be much good in a fight, though he could potentially be moderately capable with a scimitar as it's a finesse weapon and would use his better Dex mod.
And if you're starting out at first or another very low level you shouldn't have too much backstory. The three questions your backstory should answer are where are you from, how did you learn whatever skills you have, and why are you joining this adventure.
Where are you from? Is he native to the city he's presumably picked up that urban based background in, or did he get displaced there somehow?
Where did you learn your skills? Druids aren't typically common in an urban setting. Did he grow up impoverished, maybe even homeless, and somehow picked up on druidic magic to thrive in a "feral" lifestyle in the back alleys of the "urban jungle?" Maybe he came from a more natural or at least rural environment and was displaced to the city during his childhood as a refugee, fleeing a home ravaged by monsters, bandits, war, famine, or a plague? A young person who can become a cat at will, particularly an observant one with a Wis of 20, would be welcomed into a street gang as a scout and lookout or possibly cultivated as much the same by local police or city guardsmen. Growing up such a background would lend towards either a life as a professional criminal or joining the police to actively hunt criminals. Or maybe be more of a mercenary type, working for whoever is willing to pay the most for his skills without caring about the morals or motivations of his employers.
Why are you joining the adventure? Has he made a powerful enemy in a crime lord, City Guard captain, or local noble or other authority figure and simply wants to join up with some tough associates who are on their way out of town for whatever reason and figures he might as well stick with them for both safety and potential profit from whatever their goal is? Is the party's objective something within his home city and they need someone who knows the area and how to navigate it's less hospitable areas? Or maybe the party is simply in need of somebody that can track a target and they don't have a Ranger so a Druid with proficiency in Stealth and Survival will do for the task?
