On early '90, Douglas Niles write a trilogy of books that later become a AD&D Set, but this story doesn't happend on Faerun, but on a new world name Maztika. Since then this place only have references, in 5e on Volo's with the Tabaxi and in Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide.
On 4th edition has the reference that, with the spellplage this continent disapear. But, on 5e what happend? Anyone knows?
After skimming over the entry on the Forgotten Realms wiki regarding the continent, it sounds like the home of the tabaxi and tlincallis. Since both of those appear in Volo's, along with reference to strange events happening in the tabaxi homeland, I'd say it's pretty safe to assume the continent returned following the latest Sundering. I would guess there isn't going to be a lot of explicit information as to its current state of affairs though. It has the feel of one of the distant lands, given the continent is shrouded in rumor and second hand information.
DMs Guild has a great free/pay what you want article on it, and an expansion to the south called Lopango.
I'm not sure if that article is canon, though.
Dhago is asking about Maztica, if the correct spelling helps with Internet research.
It vanished off the face of Toril in 4E, and returned in 5E. Whether or not anything changed on the continent from previous edition settings material, or what happened there while it was on Toril's sister planet, has yet to be revealed and is thus "Whatever the DM thinks best for the chronicle", and will likely stay that way.
I wouldn't expect any of the "ethnic" settings (Maztica, Kara-Tur, Al-Qadim, etc) to get an update from WotC anytime in the foreseeable future.

With the Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan we could meet with Maztica again :)

He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you.
It needs a total revamp without the colonial tropes, DN's trilogy and the whole mesoarmeria mythos they created is just a poor rehash, hope they redo it with proper consulting with ppl of indigenous decent from central america.

My personal theory is that when Maztica returned after the Second Sundering the Amnish colonies had been cut off from Faerun for over a hundred years and were basically assimilated back into the native culture (Nexal, I think).
I’d love some input on this. What do you guys think?
check out dms guild, jon hild has a campaign setting with this in mind, in it, the natives and the land have reclaimed most of the continent from the colonist and the continent has appeared back from abeir into the world of dnd 5e's toril. i'm reading through it myself, and although i don't agree with it fully, it's is more than worth a look. it's called MZC1 The Maztica Campaign Guide. personally, i'm of the mindset of playing in a mesoamerican setting free of colonial tropes, that's my fantasy.

WoTC staff have vaguely referenced on Twitter that it is still in Faerun. Whether thery do anything to update it anytime soon remains to be seen.

That sounds awesome. That’s kinda like my idea.
