so creating a battlemaster fighter with the Waterdeep noble background but lil unsure what deity would a member of a Waterdeep noble taking up arms as a battlemaster fighter worship? so many deities I have no idea which one
If you want to go for a religious theme for your Fighter then, gien they're a Waterdeep noble, Mask might be rather apt (link to wiki here: https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Mask), you might need to be a bit more nefarious but the line in the worship section of the wiki reads: "The church of Mask stated that wealth rightfully belonged to those who could acquire it. Honesty was for fools but apparent honesty was a very valuable thing, and subtlety was everything." and that could give you some interesting roleplay.
I think you need to establish more about your character before you (or anybody else) can answer the question. Why is a noble from Waterdeep taking up arms and (presumably) going adventuring? Revenge? Boredom? To try to gain power to improve their position in Waterdeep politics? To pay off a debt?
Once you can answer that, you'll probably have a much better idea which one of the gods of the forgotten realms makes sense for you.
