For the 50th Anniversary of D&D and the release of the 2024 PHB there has been an adventure released to stores, that feature the characters of the animated D&D series from the beginning of the 80s.
All six characters are included as Pregens and a seventh has been added, probably to add another female and to make the character choices less 'white'.
Even though I think six characters are enough, I like for the players to be able to choose from a variety of options, so I am okay with it.
The point is though that I have no idea who that character is based on.
It's a female presenting, 'asian', cleric named Niko.
In the adventure text itself it just reads: "The seventh character sheet presents Niko, a Cleric from a dif- ferent set of adventurers who recently tumbled into the D&D multiverse."
The only thing I found on Google is a cat person character from a video game named 'oneshot' but I don't think that fits.
Has anybody with a better overview of the game lore and/or pop culture any idea where she is from?
I'm a bit late to this but I think the easiest answer is this....the original team had no healers so they've invented one. Niko may have a backstory explained at some point but at present it feel like a way to enhance party survivability. It's not a bad thing...I feel more strongly about Bobby being portrayed as a lot older, Presto being a wizard instead of a WIld Magic Sorcerer and Eric being a Fighter/Champion instead of a Fighter/Cavalier but then I'm old and curmudgeonly.
As Rob76 said she's been added because none of the others had any healing ability. She was also included in Icons of the Realms Dragon of Stormwreck Isle mini set that also included Hank, Presto, Eric and Diana
As far as I can tell these are new statblocks that might be from the 2024 DMG (?). eg. a Mage has double its old health; The bugbear grapples on a hit, has advantage against grappled creatures, and can drag creatures without losing speed; the bullywugs can all jump as per the 2024 jump spell, etc. https://xender.vip/
As far as I am aware, she was originally created for the Gen Con 2024 D&D Open event, so that the teams of 6 had to choose which one to leave behind for each of the three rounds. Since Scions of elemental evil is an adapted version of portions of that event, and Uni and the Last Unicorn was with the same characters, she was included.

I wondered that myself! Hoping someone knows the answer.

Old thread, but in the DMG it now says:
And the associated image is clearly Niko the Cleric with the D&D series characters.
