We're moving from Curse of Strahd to Vecna: Eve of Ruin, and I'm having trouble finding a purpose and motivation for my character.
I'm currently playing a level 10 Wood Elf Battlemaster Gloomstalker. My character is a longbow archer and before going to war with Strahd, he joined the Keepers of the Feather and became a Wereraven. However, at their funeral, he challenged Davion Martikov, their leader, and was defeated, thus stripping him of his powers and being cast out. Currently carrying the Holy Symbol of the Ravenkind and the Sunsword. First of all, I would like you to know these.
My Dungeon Master asked me to write a purpose and motivation text for him and I prepared one, but he wanted me to add an extra purpose besides the Vecna quest, but I didn't understand what he meant and couldn't figure out what else to add. I'm leaving the text I wrote below. If you have a suggestion, I'd be very happy.
After Strahd’s fall, Lucan had achieved a great victory but was blinded by deep pride. His challenge to Davion Martikov, the leader of the Keepers of the Feather, at a very wrong moment led to his expulsion from the group and caused him to lose the trust of those who believed in him. Lucan’s sense of loyalty and discipline had been severely shaken. However, this new mission and his new companions opened a door for him: a chance to earn forgiveness from the Keepers of the Feather, even if he no longer had ties to them, from the Raven Queen, and from his friends Damion and Kaleq. He also wanted to prove himself and restore his reputation.
Lucan dedicated himself to protecting his companions and preventing further losses by staying true to his military discipline. The deaths of his family, Tav who suffered many tortures, Leo who almost lost his mind as a pawn of the gods, and Sergei, became a turning point for him. He swore to do everything to prevent such losses on the battlefield again. His desire to prove himself was not just about showing his skills as a soldier but about correcting past mistakes and earning forgiveness.
For Lucan, the mission to stop Vecna is both a personal redemption and an opportunity to repay his debt to the Keepers of the Feather by winning them back. He hopes that by protecting his team and fighting against great threats, one day, he will regain the respect and forgiveness of his friends and new companions.
I have to be honest, I am seeing a lot of motivation in this post already. I would ask the DM for clarity because as a DM myself, I think this is plenty to work with beyond the Vecna quest.
You have:
A desire for redemption for past transgressions.
A desire to prove himself.
Motivation to restore reputation, which is part ego and part penance.
A strong motivation to protect his companions from harm, driven largely by his past losses.
These are very defined, specific, powerful motivators. People will die to prevent loved ones from dying instead.
Thank you very much for what you wrote, it was really incredibly helpful. The funny thing is, after reading this, a few more bright ideas came to my mind :D. This was a nice boost of self confidence. Thank you again for writing this.

You are most welcome. Best of luck out there. May Lucan find his redemption.
