Demonic god or cult for an adventure (Forgotten Realms)

Hi there!

So I'm preparing a one shot that happens at Baldur's Gate (is it happens at or happens in?).

The story I'm creating revolves around a dark individual—a noble from the Upper City—who kidnaps poor people (especially children) from the Outer City to sacrifice them in his dark rituals. Those rituals are made to please a demonic god. My question is, could you recommend me any demonic god or lord, and maybe a demonic cult, that could fit in this story? (from Forgotten Realms).

I mean, Bahll has been in Baulder's gate several times, is associated with demons and is the god of murder. If anyone’s child killing, it’s him.

You could take a look at Fraz-Urb'luu, to poach form his entry in Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes:

The most deceptive of all demons, Fraz-Urb'luu is a master illusionist and weaver of lies. He thrives by luring his cultists and his enemies alike into lives of self-delusion.
He can take on nearly any form, usually appearing in whatever shape is most pleasing to a potential cultist. Fraz-Urb'luu considers himself the smartest entity in the cosmos, the only one who can see through all of reality's lies and understand the truth that lies beyond them. Yet the truth that he sees remains known only to him. He utters cryptic remarks about a grand design that guides the cosmos toward some unknown end, but none can say whether these statements are another layer of deception or evidence of a true insight.

It's an interesting option! 

The plot is deeper than just a noble who sacrifices people "for fun". He's from a decadent rich family and he's part of the Parliament of Peers. One of the members of the Council of Four is ill and the noble wants to occupy his place. He prayed so hard for help to be elected, but what answered the call was not a god, but a daemon lord. That daemon lord is using this noble for his own purposes, filling his mind with shallow promises of power, demanding sacrifices in the process. 

So would Fraz-Urb'luu fit in that situation? 🙈

I think it would fit into Fraz-Urb'luu whole schtick, he/it appears to people and prays on their vanity, tells them what they want to hear etc and slowly corrupts them. So given the plot points you laid out maybe Fraz manifests a small avatar or gets one of his cultists to appear to the noble as a very concerned but low level functionary/flunky of the councils administration, weaves a few lies and whispers into the nobles ears, maybe pushes the noble to "remove" someone else who is vying for position and then pulls the noble into a "secret society which is definitely not a cult" which leads to the noble stumbling on some ancient text which enables them to contact a Deity (in game terms its the Contact Other Plane spell being intercepted/answered by Fraz) and hey presto the Noble is sacrificing people by years end.

What Fraz hasn't told the noble is that information has also been leaked and a certain group of adventurers maybe on their way.

If you want the PC's to have an interaction with Fraz whilst he is disguised then he has one very interesting ability which reads as follows "Undetectable. Fraz-Urb'luu can't be targeted by divination magic, perceived through magical scrying sensors, or detected by abilities that sense demons or fiends" add to that his ability to use the Alter Self spell at will and you have a handy explanation for how he gets away with everything although if you used Fraz directly then you might need to have a rift or portal to the Abyss located somewhere in the city as he doesn't otherwise have any Plane Shift abilities.

In the Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes book, there is a section on the Princes of the Abyss.
This gives you a brief overview of each of the so called 'Princes'.

Then in the Lords and their Thralls section, it talks about the Cultists for each 'Prince' and would be a great resource for what you are doing.
