A tiefling bard named Ariaxora with a mildly tragic back-story in which she gets drunk, gets freaky with her lover in a tavern, gets caught by the innkeeper, is insulted and ridiculed, and goes to find her lover, who had been murdered by bandits. Also, she is 18, and had witnessed the murders of both her parents at the age of 14.
@hellbringer_player..... that’s actually really creative. I never would of thought of something like that. But it’s very dark..... meh, most backstories are.
I watch. I wait. I listen. I like roleplaying games. Avid fan of messed up homebrew and horror rpgs. Lancer>dnd5e, go read Kill Six Billion Demons. I will shoot you with my transgenderification beam pew pew
I knew that it would her back story the second I decided that I wanted to play a Tiefling Bard. That was just a summary, and the actual back-story is at least 10 or 12 sentences.
Grogoro Meatsmith, an Orc of Exandria Fighter who is an aspiring chef, the twist though, is that he cooks anything he kills, even other Orcs. If he kills it, he cooks it!

Damion Wild, Mark Of Storm Half-Elf, Druid (Circle Of Wildfire) 5, Monk 3
Of all time? An ogre fighter in a 2nd Edition campaign who ended up with a 14 intelligence; I rolled two natural 18s during stat generation and the GM let me keep both if I put one into Int (he also let me ignore the racial maximum). The character was the second most intelligent character in the party after the wizard, which meant that they were extremely eloquent and descriptive when threatening people.
Fun times.
In modern games, probably the game I'm in where my character is a human commoner who got reincarnated (via divine intervention, not the spell) into being a high elf fighter-wizard courtier.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
A blue dragonborn conjurer with no arms, he has a capuchin monkey familiar in a suit(the monkey is the one that chose to wear a suit because he loves suits.) who does all the somatic and material components for spells. The conjurer and the monkey are very close friends who have been together since they were both children.
I have a mute, blind, and deaf psionic who communicates by sending emotions to people. She went blind later in life, so she can transmit telepathic images she remembers, too.
She's an arrogant little snot, though, and likes flexing her intelligence. Thus, she's far more likely to transmit symbols and visual puzzles than straightforward images, just to make people work at it. My favorite example is that, rather than flipping off her party members when they annoy her, she'll send them images of two birds.
Man, I miss playing that haughty little sociopath...
I've never actually used any of these, but here are some weird character ideas pulled out of the churning Limbo that is my brain:
A wild magic sorcerer who was turned into a child by the same magical event that gave them their power
A warlock whose patron is newly ascended to a status powerful enough to have warlocks and very excited about having warlocks
A ranger who has convinced the party they're a wizard. Dex build with high intelligence, heavy use of spellcasting, wizard-y attire, light armor, etc. No one but the DM knows until it's revealed

I am a human person very good at doing human person things, yes yes, i enjoy normal human person things like wearing clothes on my skin and walking with my leg, yes yes, am not a yuan-ti infiltrator, am human person
IF YOU'RE READING THIS GO WATCH INFINITY TRAIN ON HBOMAX
That would be awesome. Dms Description of Scene: As you walk into the bar, you notice a child who's eyes portray years far beyond their physical appearance. They seem to be much older than they appear.
That doesn't sound that weird. I could see it happening. The Goliath might have run out of challenges to overcome and then had an existential crisis, but then they realized they hadn't done music yet. So they now had a new purpose.
A wizard who is very angry at the existence of sorcerers. "I studied for DECADES to learn the arcane arts and you can just do it "naturally"?
lol imagine them interacting with the kid sorcerer

Elaborating on the kid sorcerer, their mind wasn't completely changed with their body, but they did have some side effects which they refuse to acknowledge. That said, they have no problem pretending to be a normal kid when it suits their needs.

I love all of those
You should use those.

I most certainly will
The Wild Magic sorcerer would be funny. Especially if the party meets in a bar.

A Goliath Bard is probably the weirdest thing I seen anyone play

Here's two more:
A stereotypical Jamaican "Chill, mon"-type bard
A wizard who is very angry at the existence of sorcerers. "I studied for DECADES to learn the arcane arts and you can just do it "naturally"?

That wizard would be awesome to roleplay. You're just a huge jerk to the sorcerer party member
That would be hilarious.
