everybody has had some ridiculous things happen in dnd. what's the coolest, or craziest, thing you as dm or your dm has done? (for inspiration)
for me it was when our dm replaced our fighter flint with a doppelganger and put flint in a mimic right before a battle where we fought each other. when we tried to get flint out, our healer got his head stuck in the mimic, and i, the druid, had to pull them both out. flint lost his arm and his pet stirge. he is a pretty good dm in general and most sessions were pretty cool but that's probably my favorite.
the coolest thing i've done was making basically the dead marshes from dnd but more foggy and cursed with petrifying water to attack with yaun-ti and kidnapping the party to throw in a dungeon. the craziest thing that happened wasn't in the game it was us rolling four 1s in a row on four different dice. we got a picture because we were all really surprised. i cut them some slack because the chance was 1/160,000. they needed it.
We did a relatively small task for a divine aarakocra-like being (a demigod) and he rewarded us with a floating castle, enough gold to maintain it for years, and a large group of empowered warriors to guard it. Mostly because we slightly impressed him and slightly because he was bored and felt generous.
So now we have a floating sky-castle complete with insane protection and teleportation circles and more gold than we know what to do with. We still go adventure though because it's fun.
In an early version of the campaign our group had to make our way through an eldritch-horror cave with dark spirits messing with our minds. At the end a gigantic demon bigger than any skyscraper appeared and we had to defeat the summoner: located at the top of the head. We had to scale up this thing, run up along the arms and climb into the head while avoiding the many summoned demons and spirits before defeating the summoner and narrowly avoid dying from the fall when the giant demon just disappeared.

Coolest thing my DM has done was let me use creation to make magic crystals. The spell only says non living material, so I made a magic dagger when we fought the final boss. My character already owned a crystal, and read 3 different books about them, just to make sure he knew enough about the material.
The coolest thing I think I've done was make 2 of my player's favorite characters. Really Real Ronny, and another named Bill who had a Russian accent and did Illegal body modifications.
