The character I'm writing is a 12 year old eladrin girl whose father is a warlock contracted to archfey(A). He's a famous adventurer who mainly lives in the material plane, and she's only met him a few times in her life when the border between planes weakened. Between living her life in the shadow of his accomplishments, and him never being much of a father to begin with, she was more than happy to accept a deal with archfey(B) to show him up. Archfey(B)'s reason for the contract was that her father was a prized champion of archfey(A), who (B) has a bitter dispute with. (B) decided it would be a brilliant victory to bring (A)'s champion to his knees at the hands of his own daughter, and even better if she could manage it while still a child! So when the border between planes weakened again, she snuck off to the material plane to become a greater adventurer than her father, and to one day defeat him in battle.
So, that leaves the remaining questions:
1) Who are these 2 archfey? I don't really want it to just be a seelie vs unseelie thing, nor do I want either archfey to necessarily be evil. But I haven't actually found a lot of info on archfey to make a decision.
2) What is the dispute? Knowing the fey, this dispute could be something not nearly worth their dedication to a rivalry. I kind of like the idea that serious family drama is just enabling some petty squabble between archfey.
3) How am I going to get characters to accept a 12 year old into an adventuring party (But I like the idea so I'm trying it anyways.)
I can only really answer question 3 because I have an 11 year old Fire Genasi Wizard. ( <-- pictured )
The group accepted my character on the spot when she happened upon some of them fighting some bandits who were attacking their caravan (they were guards). My character jumped out from off the road and her first attack was a critical with Chromatic Orb. I chose Acid damage. It melted the bandit into a pool of goop.
So showing you can be useful and not be a liability would certainly win you some attention. Just don't expect any NPC's to take you seriously and know you'll have to work harder to earn their respect.
