I'm a recent fan of Critical Role. I've been watching/listening from the beginning! I'm currently at episode 79 of the first campaign (fight against Thordak). I bought Explorer's Guide, but hesitate to dive in for fear of spoilers. For those who know, is it "safe" versus Critical Role episode spoilers? It's going to be a while before my current game gets to a point where we will be able to use any of this, so I'm ok on holding off reading for a while if I need to.
IIRC, the book's "canon-ness" stops at Campaign 2 Episode 50. I don't recall any major plot spoilers. I think the worst thing you'll find out is an NPC's alignment.

There is at least one major one if you haven't gotten to the end and seen Jester's development.
Don't want to say more as even that can suggest the spoiler.
There are a couple spoilers for the first campaign, particularly the Chroma Conclave arc (which OP has already seen) and the finale.
Thanks everyone!
There’s a tiny reveal about one NPC, but you have to connect the dots.
More than just 1 NPC, there's a few.
