Hi! I'm a new player, hoping to join my first campaign soon and wanted to get some feedback on what I have--Just wanting to make sure she fits into the D&d world a little better . . . This is the story of Briella, a wood elf cleric of the nature domain. For flavor, she focuses her healing magic through a symbol on her hand that creates arrows out of her spells that she casts when drawing her bow. (So she shoots her spells like arrows, only for flavor though they act the same way a regular spell would)
Personality: I watch over my friends as if they were a litter of newborn pups. I’m always picking things up, absently fiddling with them, and sometimes accidentally breaking them.Change. Life is like the seasons, in constant change, and we must change with it. I suffer awful visions of a coming disaster and will do anything to prevent it. There’s no room for caution in a life lived to the fullest.
Alignment: Chaotic Good
weapon of choice- bow and arrows or bow and divine magics
BACKGROUND STORY
Briella was dedicated to a temple of nature in a secluded elven city deep in the southern woods, Sella’serin, at birth due to a strange birthmark on her hand depicting an oak tree--the holy symbol for Rillifane Rallathil. Much of her early life being raised at the temple was spent on the more custodial pursuits rather than educational endeavors until her connection with Rillifane become known as she brought her sister Sabriel back to life with prayer after her hunting party was found dead and covered in black ice. From there she began her pursuits as a true cleric of the leaflord- one of the first in Sella’serin as most there gifted in magic practiced druid craft instead, lacking the personal touch of the distant, usually uninvolved Rillifane.
Just before Briella’s adult name day- A vision from Rillifane himself called her away from her forest home and everything she had ever known to venture out on her own. The vision was of a great coming darkness, of that ice that had nearly taking her sister spreading and swallowing whole first the city of Sella’serin and spreading with unsatiable hunger to devour anything in it’s path and diseasing the land. The god’s compulsion for her to leave was so great she left then and there with nothing but what she could carry on her back--without telling a single soul (including her sister) where she went. The Vision informed her she could not return until she was prepared to face this darkness, for if she returned she would set in motion the chain of events that would start this visions beginning.
She travels now to find the source of this great coming darkness- and to find a way to combat it to save her people. Rillifane remains frustratingly silent as he is want to do, and she stumbles trying to find her way content only in the knowledge that as long as she does not return the darkness will wait. But she cannot wait forever, and she worries-- when the leaf lord calls her back will she even be ready?
ok, i will admit, i think this backstory and character could be made into an epic movie. That was my first thought.
Now, in my opinion, this backstory is VERY good, but the only problem i see is whether your dm can make an adventure that will be able to fit your backstory in, to resolve that particular and obvious adventure hook.
I think it is very nice, I enjoyed it. I hope it is working well for you.

"I have found the answer to the meaning of life. You ask me what the answer is? You already know what the answer to life is. You fear it more than the strike of a viper, the ravages of disease, the ire of a lover. The answer is always death. But death is a gentle mistress with a sweet embrace, and you owe her a debt of restitution. Life is not a gift, it is a loan."
Oh wow xD with epic music . . just need fiery explosions to walk away cooly from.
Found a campaign to join and About to play her next week! That is what I was starting to worry about too! A way to contain the backstory so it doesn't matter as much wether or not it is resolved . . . Or I could save it to DM a one shot adventure myself in the future once I get used to playing in general.
I am toying with the idea of having the village freeze over as she leaves, and she needs to find away to unfreeze it. That way it can stay a lost frozen village should she die and not effect others outside that remote village city and she can join an adventure group in an attempt to make herself strong enough to enact the counter curse. Think that might work better?
I went with a malformed wood elven Knowledge domain Cleric.
Born during her tribe's flight from a dragon attack via the Feywild normally such a birth would both momentous and miraculous, however she was born prematurely and had the appearance of a plain human child.
Her tribe wanted to abandon the child, but her elderly Paternal Grandfather refused escaping with her seeking sanctuary within an abandoned temple. The tribe tried to drag them back out but that Temple was home to a Celestial Archon named Kestra who served Sehanine Moonbow the entity granted them sanctuary preventing the tribe accessing the temple grounds.
The tribe cursed the pair so they couldn't leave the temple grounds within the Feywild as they thought there was only a portal to the Shadowfell they were content to guard the border to insure neither left as the tribe eventually found a new home.
Her grandfather passed on and the entity raised the child as a cleric although she eventually found another exit this one to a prime material world where she grew up married and settled down for a time to raise a family.
The marriage didn't last and she and her son were forced to seek shelter within the "Refuge" when her husband abandoned them to marry someone more suitable when his older brother and father died leaving him to inherit. He was essentially persuaded he could only inherit by marrying someone suitable ironic as the two children his new wife bore him wasn't his and when she and her son ventured out once more their son grew up to meet his father's heir and the pair became fastf riends bonding over their mutual dislike for their father!
However her son was a threat to those in power and when he and his wife were killed they took steps to thwart them being raised the resulting civil war is still being waged but her efforts to counter the coup led to her being banished resulting in her being stuck on another prime material world with no means to contact her old world and the grandson she left behind.
She's become more devout in her efforts to discover a way to at least contact her grandson resulting in establishing several shrines as she is finally trying to figure out her role as a Follower of Kestra.
Sorry for the longwinded story but after reading yours I thought it might help me with mine.
Cheers hope you have great fun!
