I'm struggling to think of a backstory. He took the oath of vengeance because his village got attacked and he is taking care of a kid that he saved. any ideas for it
Maybe he is not from a Goliath village but a Goliath raised in a human one, could be an orphan that was found and raised by the religious leader of the village. Spent his childhood being bullied as something different by the cruelty of children. But the religious leader was patient and taught him to resist the urge to fight, to centre himself, to funnel that energy into doing good. So he did and built a personal relationship with the god of his adoptive parent figure. Became a gentle giant, only using his strength for the defence of others, became a well liked member of the village , depended on by many.
One night there was a frantic knock at the pastors door, two of the village in tears almost hysterical. Their daughter has gone to fetch water from the well near the mountain siding but not returned. Distraught they didn’t know what to do and came to the pastor for advice. The Goliath over hearing volunteers to go look for the girl, the parents gratefully except. He finds the girl who was attacked by a goat and knocked into a ravine suffered an injury and when he finds her is suffering a fever brought on by an infection in her injury. The Goliath tends to the girl and treats her injury, making shelter in a cave he watches over her for 4 days until she is healthy enough to make the journey home.
they return to a village in ruins, destroyed and ravaged by god knows what, hundreds dead, the girls parents and the Goliath’s parent figure among them. Over taken by grief and consumed by anger he curses his god for leading him away at the villages time of need, he could of helped, he could of protected people. In that moment his god speaks back to him. It was not his place to save the village, it was not his place to die, he assumes greatly he would of made a difference, he is but one Goliath. However he saved the girl, he made a difference there that he would not of made as another corpse in the pyre. But the god is not pleased, the holy man was a good and devout follower, they mourn the loss and give the Goliath a quest. Revenge. They manifest their symbolic weapon in the Goliath’s hands and give them a fragment of their power, they forge them into something more, their right hand clenched into a fist.
and finally they give them a lead to follow, a name of one of the ravagers.
