Well, you may find a good backstory in answering these few questions:
What god is your drow a paladin of? Since you're Chaotic good, it's likely not Lloth, so who is it and why the break from normal drow tradition?
Are you in some sort of exile? Drow are a matriarchal society and it's not likely a male drow can just show up to a gathering decked out in the vestments of another god and not be immediately scheduled for ritual sacrifice. Were you part of a raiding party to the surface who was captured and later converted? Are you the victim of a mindflayer attack that caused some sort of amnesia?
How do you deal with life on the surface? Drow aren't well conditioned for life above ground. Does your order see you as an agent who can serve the will of your oath in the deep places? Do you hide your face in the cities and towns in case the locals are a bit more racially insensitive than you'd like?
Do you have a goal of some kind? Are you on a quest to find an item? Maybe looking for a lost place of importance to you or your order. Are you on some quest for vengeance?

I would recommending doing a search for "Random Backstory Generator" - that will kick out a half-dozen generators for you like this one, this one, or this one.
I wouldn't necessarily recommend that you cut and paste the results from any of these; but they'll give you a starting point, and some ideas, for you to adjust and customize they way you'd like - without requiring you to start from zero,

There aren't any mechanical restrictions, but narratively they lean towards Lawful. I guess it would depend on which Oath they chose, and how strictly they interpreted its demands.
You're a warrior who's part of a patrol sent out to hunt down a group of heretics. Your patrol sets up an ambush for them. When your quarry arrives, you spring the ambush, however, the heretics prevail. You are grievously wounded, but the heretics do not kill you while you are weak and helpless, in fact their priestess heals you. As you feel the soothing magic flow into you, you feel a divine presence, and although you do not understand, you feel it will be alright. Over time, as you travel with these heretics, you learn of their goddess, Eilistraee, the Dark Maiden, and learn of mercy and empathy. You feel bound to return the unconditional love that the Dark Maiden has shown you, and you answer her call to service.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
I always liked the you were found as a baby raised by the church/priest/nuns of your god. And are searching for who left you and why. So you joined an army (knight background) as a way to afford, or get out of the church. I like it because it gives your character a goal, and something a good DM can work with, but doesn't make your character "the one." You can add in fluff to it like were you picked on for being different, did you have a friend, is your friend alive. How were you treated in the army, are you still in the army, did you leave on good terms? that kind of fluff stuff.

Aren't paladins always lawful
There are no race/class/alignment restrictions in 5e.
