Greetings all! As some of you know, I previously ran a thread with some monster articles called a DM's Guide to Running Monsters and would release articles semi-weekly giving roleplay and combat tips for those monsters. However, I sort of discontinued the series after some computer issues, but now we are, thankfully, BACK! With that said, I also want to go in a bit of a different direction creatively. This series will be providing a look through the eyes of Quintus Peartree, a retired adventurer and researcher documenting his findings on the monsters he has encountered. This series will for the most part follow a theme and will also provide some extra or different lore for some of these creatures, maybe even some homebrew additions of my own. That said, enjoy the series, and please enjoy the following message from Quintus himself!
Quintus Peartree’s Guide to Monsters: My Findings and Discoveries on a Journey of Epic Adventure, Peril, and Magic
Greetings travelers, adventurers, those riding in first class, and those who are with us from the Astral Plane! It is my pleasure to introduce a course on monster combative technique, as well as to document my findings over the past several years spent traveling both the material plane and the known universe in search of all creatures terrifying, mystical, aberrant, monstrous, squishy, smelly, and tasty*. In this course, I hope you will receive the information necessary not just for your personal knowledge of these creatures, but practical skills to employ should you encounter them in the wild**. I, Quintus Peartree, will be providing most of the lectures for this course, although I suspect I shall be able to wrangle some of my associates in to offer their insight on some of these creatures. I trust that this guide will provide guidance to some of you young students looking to pursue careers in the field, and perhaps to some seasoned adventurers as well. I bid you adieu until our next lecture, beginning my series on Aberrations: The Insane, Unfathomable, and Unknowable: Seriously, Don’t Even Try to Figure Them Out. No really. *Sigh* Fine... Yes Evaline, you can Pet a Mind Flayer Tadpole. Two Fingers. NONONONO- *sigh* Note to Self, Find New Apprentice.***
Until then…
- Quintus Peartree, Retired Gnome Adventurer, Expert Spellcaster, Amateur Exotic Chef
*Displacer beast tentacle is quite good fried. Do NOT eat anything the gnolls give you.
**Quintus Peartree and affiliates cannot be held responsible in the event of loss of life, sanity, arms, legs, and other protruding body parts. We do not encourage you to tamper with these creatures, merely to prepare you should you happen upon them in your studies. Please keep hands inside the vehicle at all times.
***Perhaps I got a bit carried away with the subtitle. Also, I’m seriously hiring new apprentices.
