Any ideas on some of the coolest or awesomest character builds for the upcoming heist themed adventure anthology? This is just a thread to share ideas and builds and try to min-max as much as possible, though you should probably tell your DM in advance if you want to make a crazy powerful build.
Since these are heists, a lot of this will be about min-maxing stealth and sleight of hand stuff. Rogues do work well for this, but there are still ways to make cooler or better characters for that. My idea was an Arcane Trickster Rogue that took 2 levels in Diviner Wizard in order to get Portent. The character would also have the lucky feat, and spells like Arcane Lock, Silvery Barbs, Absorb Elements, Shield, Detect Thoughts, Invisibility, or Misty Step (though I doubt this build would be able to prepare all these spells at once).
Do you have any cool character ideas for this? I'm kinda just eager t to hear about the most min-maxed D&D characters for heists.

BoringBard's long and tedious posts somehow manage to enrapture audiences. How? Because he used Charm Person, the #1 bard spell!
He/him pronouns. Call me Bard. PROUD NERD!

L1 Rogue for proficiency in Thieves Tools and Expertise in Thieves' Tools and the most important skill for you.
L2+ for Lore Bard for more proficiencies, more expertises, Jack of All Trades, and Magic you can use to thwart situations normal Rogues couldn't bypass.
Race: Astral Elf, Eladrin, or Shadar-kai, to have a short-range teleport that's not a spell that you can use Proficiency Modifier # of times per day.
Alternatively, if you want to use deception in your infiltrations, you could play as a Changeling, Rogue 1, Eloquence Bard x to have Expertise in Persuasion and Deception, with all rolls on those skills counting as 10+, and probably advantage for looking and sounding exactly like the person you're impersonating.
Race: Owlin (if allowed) - flight + Stealth Proficiency, if not then Tabaxi or Shadar-kai L1 Rogue - Thieves Tools Expertise, plus 4 proficiencies and expertise in stealth. L2-5 Druid - Wildfire - Wildfire spirit = free short range teleport, plus Pass without Trace (best stealth spell in the game), plus Detect Magic, Charm Persion, Faerie Fire, Enhance Ability, Protection from Poison, and you can always wildshape into a mouse, rat or spider, or conjure a familiar for inconspicuous scouting. Grab Shadow Touched for your feat for Invisibility and a high-damage spell (Inflict Wounds) to one-shot guards you cannot avoid. L6-L9 Lore Bard for more proficiencies, Expertise and Jack of all trades, pick up as many Illusion spells as you can : Disguise Self, Silent Image, Minor Illusion, Suggestion.
Mark of Passage Human or Elf Mark of Shadow Halfling Lightfoot
It is my understanding this book was developed to be less hack and slash and more use of skills and cunning. So I think these would be good choices. However, Human Variant can give you the advantage right away at level one and get you a +2 to Dex. The only drawback in my mind with human variant is no darkvision. However, to make a plug for the Hobbit, it comes with LUCK, which could be huge in the Keys.
I would suggest selecting a background that gives you thieves tools and proficiency's that will be useful to a rogue such as stealth or investigation. I would consider Criminal or Spy (deception and stealth) At level 1 and at least a 16 dex this will give you proficiencies in six skills +5 Acrobatics and _4 athletics.
