Sharpshooter seems the feat people go for, I've already picked Archery and have 16 dex. . I can't see myself taking the -5 to hit very often, but the cover component would prob get used regularly. With Magic initiate I'm considering either a defensive spell or find familiar, say an owl, to help with scouting and getting advantage in combat. Also, if I so M I , which cantrips ?
I thought about Magic Initiate too, but would recommend Ritual Caster instead, you get two spells, take Find Familiar and something else, Comprehend Languages or Guiding Hand. If you did MI and your familiar dies, you lose it until the next day, as a Ritual caster, you can recast during a short rest. Plus you get to keep learning new spells later such as Tiny Hut and Telepathic Bond.
I would only suggest Magic Initiate if you want to get a little flavor from a caster class. Use it for RP purposes and fleshing out what your character wants to be. If you want more effectiveness just overall go for the ASI.
Only time I liked taking magic initiate was for a bard who fancied himself a paladin. Took some cleric spells for initiate and for their magical secrets from Lore Bard he took some paladin spells. Does your ranger fancy themselves as a full druid and want some perk from their spell list?

"I have found the answer to the meaning of life. You ask me what the answer is? You already know what the answer to life is. You fear it more than the strike of a viper, the ravages of disease, the ire of a lover. The answer is always death. But death is a gentle mistress with a sweet embrace, and you owe her a debt of restitution. Life is not a gift, it is a loan."

Forget the feat for now and up your Dex to 18. that's 4 levels worth of +1 to hit and damage, +1 to AC and all the other stuff Dex comes in handy for.
Take the ASI at level 4
And then take the ASI again at 8, 20 DEX is nice you will like it.
And at level 12 you can start thinking feat. By then Sharpshooters -5 will be a pretty small dent into your +11 to hit.
