What about the mental aspect? Sure, the US'll win if they expected this and readied themselves. But what's the army going to think when they see a horde of red, horned demons charging them, wielding fire in their hands? Maybe they outnumber them 10:1, or even 100 or 1000:1. You've got all the airplanes, all the (non-ballistic) weapons - it's an easy win, or at least it seems like it. Heck, all the vehicles? You've even got some ships parked inside the zone. It should be the easiest victory of all time - almost no casualties. But you see these guys, and you're seeing things straight outta hell -- literally. They're going to run, even though they don't have anywhere to go. Would you care about fighting the demons when they're charging you?
Just wondering on this, don't take it into consideration if it's stupid.

They’re soldiers; the enemy shows up and they fire on them. That’s about half of basic training. So long as they die like anything else, I expect the troops would adapt pretty quickly.
I do not believe that they would run. There would be some numbskull that would want confirmation that they are bad guys and not order his platoon to fire but everybody else would be shooting not running away.
Maybe if it were the fighting forces of some other nation, or maybe if it were National Guard units.

Marines don't run.
