Hello, everybody! I'm looking to get into DnD, and I'm going to use an OC I created who's based on the Doom Slayer from the more recent DOOM reboot games (2016, Eternal, and Dark Ages). But I have NO IDEA how any of this works, so could somebody respond to this thread or DM me and help me step-by-step?
BTW, I don't use social media. If we can keep it to this platform, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
Find the DM that will run the campaign you plan to play in.
That DM may nix your idea or he can help you. I have never heard of "DOOM reboot games (2016, Eternal, and Dark Ages)"
Getting into the game, yo may want a more tradition al character from the 2024 PHB to learn the rules. That can also help you create this doom slayer as your 2nd character.
I love all of the Doom Games, and am familiar with the newer versions as well.
If you are looking to have any kind of Firearms (like the Doom Slayer), you will want to check with your DM as Character77006 suggested as many DMs don't allow Firearms in their fantasy games.
If you are running a Spelljammer campaign, then that is a whole different story, and you will have many more options to get closer to what the Doom Slayer is like.
You are on the right path by mixing a Fighter and a Barbarian.
Will you be playing with the 5e.14 or 5e.24 ruleset? What books and Subclasses do you have access to?
These questions will determine how the character is built.
Cheers!

Breathe, dragons; sing of the First World, forged out of chaos and painted with beauty. Sing of Bahamut, the Platinum, molding the shape of the mountains and rivers; Sing too of Chromatic Tiamat, painting all over the infinite canvas. Partnered, they woke in the darkness; partnered, they labored in acts of creation.
Additionally there are lots more free books, and information all over the site. There are even Forum Posts like This One that document some of it for newer players.
I'd suggest talking to your DM and determining which ruleset they will be using, and then read through that to get an understanding of how the game is played. While you are going through that, maybe check out one of the many YouTube videos of a group of players recording their sessions to see how people at other tables play (each one is a little different)
If you have questions as you are learning, come back here to the Forums and ask away... there are a LOT of very helpful and friendly people that will be more than happy to answer your questions.

I have player who used the Zealot barbarian subclass from Xanathar's (we were using 2014 5e rules), and just did some minor re-skinning of the existing traits for a Doom Slayer theme: "Reckless Attack" became "Rip and Tear." "Unarmored Defense" became "Unbreakable, Incorruptible, Unyielding." "Warrior of the Gods" is now "Too Angry to Die." And so on.
It's not so much a character build, as it is a "re-imagining" of how the existing class features would apply, without actually changing how any of those features work. So if you're just going for a character that has the right feel, you could figure something out between the Fighter and Barbarian classes (and as others have already mentioned, talk to your DM because they can help you with how the rules work).
It's also worth mentioning that D&D encourages you to lean more heavily toward either ranged or melee combat, and it can be tricky to build for a combination of both like you see in the newer Doom games. That's not to say it can't be done, but if you're open to the idea that the Slayer is still the Slayer even without his usual firearms, you may have an easier time building your character.
The idea of not having traditional firearms is kind of the premise of Dark Ages, so I was going into this with the idea of stuff like flails, axes, crossbows, etc. But thanks for the advice!

That's...part of the problem. I don't know the rules, and I don't have access to any books or subclasses either.
Good News!
Basic D&D is totally Free to play :)
As you noticed, you don't need to pay for a basic D&D Beyond Account.
Additionally there are the following that are available to you:
