Shillelagh is a trap, IMO, the DPR increase is marginal at best because a melee-sorcerer needs to max out their DEX anyway for AC and it forces you to use your first turn casting it. Shillelagh's only good if PAM applies to your staff and you have PAM, but taking PAM at level 4 means delaying Warcaster until level 8 which significantly hampers your ability to use concentration spells and a good concentration spell is worth way more than PAM. The only other option is waiting until level 8 to get PAM at which point you've spent almost half the campaign before your build comes online.
Shillelagh's casting time is a Bonus Action, and it lasts a minute. Being a Cantrip, it doesn't prevent the casting of any Spells that take an Action in the same Turn,. That said, Clubs and Quarterstaffs aren't Finesse weapons, so it's either Strength or Casting Stat unless you loop in more classes, and if going Draconic Sorcerer under the 2024 rules (as requested by the OP), maxing Charisma is boosting AC.
Edit: That said, it does mean that you can't invoke your Innate Sorcery feature that same turn, and it won't be a Sorcerer Spell, so it wouldn't benefit from that feature, either.

PAM on a melee sorcerer is a trap imo, yes it allows you to cast a spell as a reaction if someone enters your melee zone, but then you don't have your reaction avail to use shield if you get hit => bad idea :)
Shillelagh is very easy to use, no conc needed last one minute and let you use chr for +hit/+dmg if you use a club / Staff ( normaly str ); depending on your DM worst case you could just say i will cast Shellelagh every minute when i suspect there might be combat. Most DM's i know use something like roll 1d10 when you enter combat for how many rounds of Shillelagh you have left, instead of the hassle of casting it every minute. Some very lenient (sp?) DM's allow you to use it before initiative is rolled.

i disagree on the edit, yes Shillelag itself is not a sorcerer spell, but all it does is allowing you to use your spellcasting modifier to hit/dmg so if you use Truestrike / BB / GFB you benefit from innate Sorcery even if the weapon you use is a Shillelaged Quarterstaff
most important feats for a melee sorcerer are the following ( i give them the rating i think ) :
s- tier : Warcaster ( chr +1 ) & light Armor ( not for the armor but for the shield prof. ) a-tier : ASI +2 chr / dex b-tier : martial weapon mastery ( if you don't have MI: Druid this gets up to a-tier ), mage-slayer, defensive duelist ( if using a dex-weapon and want to save spell slots )
but a melee sorcerer will benefit incredibly with just 1 lvl of Paladin
