Hi, Im a younger person who plays dnd (im not comfortable saying my age, but its mid secondary school age) and I have struggled with being able focus at the dnd table. I started by using fidgets yet it wasnt quite enough. Ive got a campaign with my family and a few other people weekly. I have very small peraler beads that If I used wouldnt be much a distraction. I understand that listening isnt the only part, but ive nearly memorized my Monk, and It doesn't take anything for me to quickly look something on my sheet if needed. Is this a dumb idea?
My wife knits. Once she became proficient at it she could watch TV or carry on a conversation while knitting. As long as you can follow the game when it's someone else's turn and are ready when it's your turn no harm is done.
It really comes down to whether you're making the game worse for other players. A subtle fidget device probably won't as long as you remain engaged with the game rather than focusing entirely on the fidget device.
Another good option is getting a notepad / sketchbook and taking notes & doodling sketches of locations, characters, or monsters you encounter during the game.
She can have a hard time with focus as well, and she found that doodling/sketching like she does helps.
if you find something that helps you play and it's not distracting to the table, then go ahead and have fun!

Breathe, dragons; sing of the First World, forged out of chaos and painted with beauty. Sing of Bahamut, the Platinum, molding the shape of the mountains and rivers; Sing too of Chromatic Tiamat, painting all over the infinite canvas. Partnered, they woke in the darkness; partnered, they labored in acts of creation.
