Honestly, I'm surprised to see that Intellect Devourers don't get any love in this thread. Their best move plays off of the worst stat in the game, and insta-kills, while giving the Devourer a nice new body, and the ability to use any and all spells the now-dead PC had. They are really annoying minions for the Mind Flayers.
I once was in a test fight that involved 4 players with 2 characters each against two Stone Golems and an Ancient Red Shadow dragon. The golems weren't too bad, but that dragon was a pain. If it weren't for the the fact that one of my characters had Eldritch Blast, we wouldn't have done any full damage to that thing.
