I am a human cleric of life domain. Just leveled up to level 3 and I want to know. How can I play a human cleric of life domain and kick ass in the sessions?
A life cleric is centred around healing, though that dooes not mean it is all you can do.
Bless is a greart spell to cast either before combat or in the first round (hopefully noone will need healing at that point), at least until you have progressed a few more levels and have lots of spell slots I would keep your spell slots for bless and healing spells. (If you have 6-8 combats a day you might always do this but while what D&D is built around unless you are on a dungeaon crawl it is unlikely to happen)
If the rest of the party are made of tissue paper you can get into melee and try to prevent the bad guys attacking them but this is not ideal for you as you are likely to lose concentration on the bless and are op attacked are not going to be that much of a deternet for the bad guys to just for the wizard. Heavy armour does mean you can risk getting close to carry out a cure wounds.
Whenever anyone is doing anything out of combat that requires a roll, give them a guidance. Do it to the point where it’s a little annoying, then keep doing it until it becomes comical. It will be just as useful at level 20 as it is now.
Don’t feel bad if you have to take care of yourself, you can’t help anyone if you go down.
Carry a heal potion (or 2) on you so if you do go down, anyone in the party can give it to you. Otherwise you can be left making death saves while the rogue who dumped wisdom is trying to make medicine checks.
I'd suggest carrying a healer's kit as well. Other party members can use this on you if you go down, or you can hand it off to one of them so they can at least stabilize someone if you are busy. For Cantrips, I'd recommend Guidance and Sacred Flame. And for spells, I suggest you regularly prepare those from your domain list. They are your bread-and-butter as a life cleric.

Kick ass at what? Healing? Damage output? Running?

If you want to be great at healing, just take Goodberry one way or the other and you can heal 40 hit points with a 1st level spell slot.
