Voting starts on Halloween. You'd have to finish the build before the end of today.

Hey, DorkForge. As you have allowed some homebrew classes/rules, I just wanted to check if I could get permission from you to have my character be able to use find greater steed to summon a pegasus(available using the spell), but then transform it into a nightmare by cutting off its wings. There is no RAW clearcut rule for how to do this, but I figured that a fallen paladin possessed by an evil, sentient magic sword would be able to figure out how to do this, as partially described in the Monster Manual:
Creating a Nightmare. Nightmares don’t appear naturally in the multiverse. They must be created from pegasi. The ritual that creates a nightmare requires the torturous removal of a pegasus’s wings, driving that noble creature to evil as it is transformed by dark magic.
Thanks in advance. I understand if you won't allow it. I just figured that I should ask so I can edit it my post before it is too late to fix it.

Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
Fluffiness: As always, my dear Yurei, your prose and narrative is wonderful. Love it.
Effectiveness: The Blood Hunter (Mutant) and Artificer (Alchemist) work quite well together I think. What weaknesses that appear initially in the build can be bolstered up easily in the moment by various abilities. Better suited to hunting down single targets than dealing with mobs, but it excels in that role. The lower AC at high levels could potentially prove problematic, but focusing on ranged fighting and staying out of the line of fire can help with that. Verrah noice. A flexible character after my own heart.
Augur Taft
Fluffiness: I dig the concept of Augur being dropped down the rabbit hole of insanity, very thematic and fitting to the contest. I love how the changeling racial abilities play into it.
Effectiveness: First and foremost, I would probably go with something other than Champion. It's just typically underwhelming for the most part. The higher crit chance can be nice, sure, but overall it doesn't match up to something like Battle Master. Less than stellar AC means you'll need those HP and mental saves are going to put him in a world of hurt. Uncanny Dodge will help with the damage resilience however. Gloom Stalker is a good, thematically fitting subclass but would probably gestalt better in this case with Assassin rather than Swashbuckler. I do enjoy the flexibility when it comes to weapon choice, being able to choose between one handed, two weapon, and archery can be helpful for varying situations.
Ash Williams
Fluffiness: It speaks for itself and I do not possess the ability to improve on the King.
Effectiveness: One wouldn't immediately think you could combine levels of artificer and barbarian into something remotely resembling effective, but honestly this works in some ways. Focusing the meat of his Artificer abilities into simply buffing and/or supporting the Barbarian bulk of things gets around even attempting to deal with spells and rage together. Ash is overall a tank who can rock damage and keep going while occasionally pulling off something he shouldn't have the faintest chance of doing. He'll get messed up along the way, but in the end he'll stand atop a mound of bloody Deadite corpses with a smug look like he always does.
The Bloodied Blade
Fluffiness: I dig the concept here. Evil possessive artifact scores points for sure.
Effectiveness: I think this build has a lot going for it for both in and out of combat effectiveness. It may not be good at some things, but it doesn't care about those things. It is good at what it does, in general. There's definitely a lot of nova potential with dual smites and other stacking abilities, and while that's not typically the sort of thing I myself make I can appreciate what its capable of.
Jun'thar
Fluffiness: Creepy horror vibes, yeah Jun'thar's got those. I am down with this concept.
Effectiveness: Well trying to fight this would definitely hurt like crazy. Hard to take down and capable of some pretty consistent damage. That Wis save could definitely be trouble, of course. I almost would have considered swapping Tavern Brawler maybe for Mage Slayer but that's up in the air. Part of me feels like a good fit. There's definitely some levels of overlap between abilities here, with Rage and Hybrid Transformation, and you're going to need a few rounds to get things going with all those bonus actions activations. Once it does, however, I can definitely see potential.
Child of the Moon
Fluffiness: Picking up a Werewolf the Apocalypse vibe here and I don't dislike it.
Effectiveness: Another tough, high HP critter that would be difficult to put down in a physical fight. Much like Jun'thar, you're looking at a significant weakness with that saving throw, and multiple rounds to get up to speed with bonus actions. Survive long enough to do it though and this definitely becomes a significant threat.
Elezer Nerex
Fluffiness: Fhtagn indeed.
Effectiveness: There are certainly some situations where this could be effective, and while thematically this is a lone wolf sort of character, I feel it would really need some outside aid to stand up for long. Next to no AC and HP, and nothing exciting so far as saving throws goes creates some decided gaps in survivability here. The spell choices, while not bad, show some overlap and could maybe benefit from something more direct damage like Blight, which would still be thematic.
The Dark Hunter
Fluffiness: Not too shabby. A classic trope, but that's not a bad thing.
Effectiveness: My first thought is Blade Ward, really? It's a trap. It really is. The Bard spells work well at low levels, but later on Sleep falls off sharply and Cure Wounds isn't going to do much to mitigate damage. Wisdom saves are potentially a problem, as well as Strength ones.
The Verdict: Some interesting things here. A lot of the builds had one or two glaring points that could be exploited without too much trouble. In the end I felt it came down to Alynne Valheim and The Bloodied Blade. Both of these builds had great fluffiness as well as strong mechanical builds. I also loved Jun'thar, but felt like the build up and ability overlap were just edged out by the other two. In the end I have to vote for Alynnebased on being all around incredibly capable with no glaring weaknesses that I could see, and in general being more consistent when it comes to in and out of combat capabilities.
Voting is now open! Sorry for the delay everyone, Halloween was a busy time for me on the DF Discord server. Regarding turning a Pegasus into a Nightmare, your character would certainly be evil but why not! You've gone far enough to get FGS afterall!
Thanks for your kind words. I felt that poor Wis save the whole way through, but concluded that to be consistent with the character, I needed to leave it be. This is a person who ignores what's human inside and becomes completely primal. If I were building for an optimized party, I would get the base Wis to 9 or 11 and take Resilient (Wis). Concerning overlap, I agree Rage overlaps with a few of the Bloodhunter abilities, but he also gains Unarmored Defense, Danger Sense, and Reckless Attacks for that 2 level dip. The focus for the Barbarian levels really came down to Unarmored Defense for the flavor (basically a naked beast roaming the lands) and the amazing Reckless Attacks with Savage Attacks.
If I wanted to really optimize the Lycan order, I think a Tabaxi Dex build with a fair intelligence and a 3 lv dip into Fighter for an applicable fighting style, action surge, and maybe battlemaster dice or a 2-3 lv dip into War Mage for a nice boost to ac, saving throws, initiative and utility is the way I would go. In the end, however, the Lycan order is just too focused on improving unarmed strikes that it will always come short of something very optimized and well-rounded.
My vote is for Arissa, the Dark Princess (Archaeolexi).
If it was from a purely optimized and mechanical perspective, I would have voted for Alynne (Yurei). For a competition focused on spooky/Halloween, however, I really wanted to see monsters. Most characters often already function as monster hunters, so I was looking for a bit different angle.
I went back and forth on whether to vote for "Child of the Moon" (GoodBovine) or Arissa. In the end, I decided on voting for a villain.
Arissa has a great undead/vampiric vibe. She oozes charisma and bends all into serving her, even the undead. I only wish there was more flavor of her feasting on others, not necessarily on their blood, but perhaps more life draining affects.
A lot of other fun and interesting builds, but these are what really stuck out to me. Good luck everyone!
Ah, yes. I meant to replace it at level 3. Is it ok for me to make that small, forgotten change DF?

I really like all the builds but Yurei’s Alynne was by far my favorite. It was a pleasure to read and I would 100% play this and enjoy it. As much as I hate to let you win again Yurei.......That was some good s**t
Alynne gets my vote. This is my first time participating in one of these so it's interesting. Lots of neat ideas and builds.
Edit: Yurei pointed out a derp. I thought I changed the Rogue subclass in the header and in the build. But apparently I forgot to change it in the header x.x

Ohhh.... Ok. I'm excited. Might get another one in tomorrow, that ones more for fun and a concept, not nearly as optimised as the king.
