Thing is Dragionlance Kobolds are bog standard VGM/TCE kobolds, the drasgonborn there (Draconians) have certain things (death throws) that aren't in the metallics writeup, and gem and chromatic dragonborn aren't a thing, also, Gem Dragons aren't exactly a big thing in Dragonlance. My bet is that they're testing for a Draconomicon style book and are going to be focusing on the players side for draconic races and subclasses (wouldn't surprise me if the next is a couple playtests for some Dragon based subclasses.
People are saying Dragonlance because of Fizban's Platinum SHield, and are ignoring that he's literally the only Dragonlance mention as two of the other Name Spells reference Faerunian dragons.
WOTC please slap flame stride on the paladin. Find steed specifically says that spells that target you also affect your mount so I can go around sonic the hedgehogging with fire hooves
My main takeaway from flame stride is that, yes it can potentially affect a large large group of people, but how large are your battle maps really? And is the 1d6 of one of the most commonly resisted damage types once really going to make that much of a difference? I don’t think so

I’m thinking Scribe Wizard, personally...shift that “fire” damage over to “cold”, “lightning”, or even “force” damage to really disorient targets in your path.
Wizards and Sorcerers aren't going to be the ones casting Flame Stride. Its the Artificers and Rangers who are. Well, maybe the Bladesinger too. I can see Bladesingers. But, in general, Flame Stride isn't worth a 3rd level slot for a non-gish. Fireball, Haste, Fly, Counterspell, Hypnotic Pattern, Dispel Magic are still going to be the spells of choice for the non-BS wizard and the sorcerer at their 3rd level slots; its simply a waste of a Concentration slot coupled with lackluster damage for a full caster to rely on.
The characters that will get the most use out of the spell are those that want to be in combat and have decent mobility. I have to agree that is not really in line with a lot of wizard or sorcerer builds. EK Fighters I think will be the ones that will be able to make the most use out of the spell, especially if the have the Mobile Feat or can get regular movement buffs.

Yeah getting into position would be helpful... Mobile would be a decent investment there.

It would be nice if the official version also came with an optional way to incorporate it as an Elemental Discipline for 4Elements monks, but thats probably wishful thinking. Easy enough to homebrew something like that, though

I know I was trying not to spoil the reveal for anyone who hasn't read Dragonlance before

Draconians aren't Dragonborn. They're only related in that they're both draconic humanoids.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
Generally you only get 2 or so subclasses in a setting/other book. We might already have our two subs for a dragon book with the monk and ranger.

By that argument, isn't it even worse for a half caster who has even fewer spell slots to use?
