By 3rd level, the tinkering in your free time has borne you a faithful companion, an iron defender. This metallic creature resembles a hound, a cougar, a bear, or another four-legged creature of your choice. It is friendly to you and your companions, and it obeys your commands. See this creature’s game statistics in the iron defender stat block.
So there's no limits on the size of the creature the Iron Defender resembles? So it could be an Elephant? Would it get the associated increase in carrying capability? Would a dragon be considered 4 legged? Or perhaps something tiny that could be used to stealthily recon?
As a DM would you limit the size of the Iron Defender? Or just make the player pay the role playing price (so to speak) of having something of extreme size / resemblance?

Visually you can make it look as you like, but this doesn't change the stat block for it.
The Iron Defender is a medium construct.

I missed that in the stat block. Thanks.
