I was just wondering how long it takes for WoC to decide and officially make Unearthed Arcana content to be published content or archived in general? Specifically the content for The Swarm Keeper, Revived and Rune Knight.
It varies. At least a few months, at most a year or 2. I think the races of ravnica had the shortest playtest period of barely over 3 months.
On the other hand, the three subclasses UA (brute, circle of spores, school of invention) where in playtest for a long time. The circle of spores got printed 11.5 months later (some of the school of invention's features got turn into items in the same book), but the brute and school of invention stayed unofficial until they were archived after around 22 months.
Ahhh I see. I read somewhere that any UA material after Jan 2018 will be in the DnD Beyond character options. Does that mean they will always be available in the toggle feature even if they are archived? Or will some be removed eventually from the character builder?
Some will eventually be removed, when Wizards of the Coast lets us know that the playtest cycle has finished for that particular content.
If you have any characters that use that content, they can continue to do so though - we're all D&D players ourselves, so have no desire to break characters that people are attached to!
Any reason why you can't just archive old UA material but still allow us access to it? Personally I'd like to still have some of that old material without having to make homebrew versions.

Because WotC (the owners of the UA) told them not to.
As it says in the locked and pinned posts at the top of page one of this section "You may recreate "archived" Unearthed Arcana content as private homebrew to use on D&D Beyond, but may not submit it to be listed as public homebrew."
So if you have the PDF document, use the toolset and go for it

I see so if I created a character that is using that subclass it will still be interactive, but I just wont be able to make a new one with that subclass content?
