As I search the pages here on D&D beyond... I see all the players handbook info is free to access. Or am I missing something? Reason I'm asking is I have limited funds at the moment, and want to have everything for my players to run my quest... but I want to buy the monster book first. So will my players have everything they need on there character sheets if I do not buy the players handbook. (note: I have a hard copy of the players handbook, and monsters, but want to get all books digital copied. I also subscribed to DM monthly thing here on D&D beyond, so I can sure stuff with my players). (btw... I want the monster book so I can pull up the monster while playing and have the info in front of my on my laptop where I will also have my quest typed out.)
only the Basic Rules are available for free. Note that you can buy specific subclasses from the PHB if you want and it will count towards the cost of buying the full PHB.
The players will be slightly limited on what they can choose for a race or sub-class once they reach the appropriate level without the player's handbook. Since you have the master tier sub, you can subscribe to the many monsters that have been homebrewed instead of purchasing the Monster Manual if you want your players to have a larger range of options for their characters. Homebrew sub-classes and races are coming soon, so you could also have them create their own sub-class when they reach the appropriate level if the Basic Rules/SRD subclasses aren't up to their liking. You would even have the option of recreating the PHB sub-classes, or having them do it, since you own the book and have access to that information.
The choice is yours, really. You could create quite the campaign using homebrewed monsters while allowing players a larger flexibility in what sub-class/race to pick.
PHB is the one book I think is the most essential, even more so than the MM. It gives you access to most of the races and subclasses, with just the free content you only get one subclass per class.
PHB, XGtE, Volo's, SCAG, MM, DMG would be the order I would suggest. I accidentally got the DMG first. Also, if you really want it, toss in that Tortle package near the end.

I just want to tell everyone "happy gaming" and actually mean it. Whatever your game is, just have fun with it, it is after all, just a game.

Hi there RavenFrost,

D&D Beyond can be used for free and contains information from the following "free to use" sources published by Wizards of the Coast: D&D 5th edition SRD, D&D 5th edition Basic Rules, and Elemental Evil Companion.
Content from other sources, such as the Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, or Monster Manual, will need to be purchased from the Marketplace or accessed via another user sharing content with you via their Master Tier Subscription.
Check out the Pricing FAQ as well.

it would be nice if the players handbook content came free with a subscription.
Original query answered, so closing this down before it becomes a copy of other threads asking for the same thing.
