I'm new to this site so please forgive me if this is in the wrong place.
I am a mobile DM, I travel to two separate groups to DM for them and I carry all my stuff with me. This is heavy and I am not as spry as I used to be. Am I correct in thinking that if I were to purchase the Compendium only options of the books, it would essentially give me a digital copy of the full book?
I am not looking to run my games using DnD Beyond (at least not yet, we will see) I just want to ease the weight on my back. Would the compendium version be the full book but just like a pdf version? Is it worth the extra cost to run a full home game with DnD beyond?
Also, the subscription models, do they include the content from the books or are they to be bought separately?
You might want to check out the Pricing FAQ for many of those answers.
In short - The compendium 'only' purchase for each book will be a digital copy of the book on D&D Beyond and on the Mobile App (Soon to be in open beta). It will not populate the monster, background, feat, spell, or item listing with the content in those books. So yes, it's a bit like a pdf. In fact, you can print each section to pdf and have your own copy if you want to. They also contain the full size maps of each area for adventures. Some are quite massive. I printed a map of Chult on my plotter at work. On a side note, if you purchase the compendium only, it will deduct the cost from the full purchase option in case you want to purchase all of it in the future.
Subscriptions only open up further options for the tools. They will not unlock content.
