I'm about to play an in person dnd game using 5th edition 2014. Dndbeyond seems like a good way to make a character and keep track of it during the game. Does buying the 2024 edition give me the 2014 options when making a character, or should I just buy the 2014 version?
Yes you can, make sure you select 2014 AND Legacy at the start of character creation. And make sure to scroll down to select 2014 classes and species, subclasses.
Currently you can't turn off 2024 content showing as well, so you'll see double listing of some things like Cure Wounds and Cure Wounds Legacy for spell casting. Legacy is the 2014 version.

Buying the 2024 Player's Handbook doesn't automatically give you access to material from the 2014 Player's Handbook or other sources. Those are separate purchases.
But if you already own those things, you can still use them; buying the 2024 content doesn't change that.
