Hi all, I know this might sound silly but in character creation, on the first page, there is an allow/restrict toggle for book content and allowances. Which direction is allow and which is restrict? Let’s say I want to allow Eberron and Homebrew, plus track coin encumbrance, but restrict the other options. Is that left (or grey) to allow and the rest of the options toggle right (or red)?
i know I’m over thinking it but a clearer indication at the top of the page would be helpful.
The color is only the same color as the character sheet if you're in the preferences pane, not if you're in the home pane of the character editor. There it's always grey/red.

I'm going to dredge this up because this still looks more ambiguous than it should be. Every time I create a new character, I do a double take. That shouldn't happen.
During character creation, the sources section says "Allow or restrict sources to be used for this character". With the switch "On" (to the right and colored), does that "Allow or restrict" the source? Experimentation shows that "On" means "Allow". Therefore, it should be "Allow sources to be used for this character". Having a binary option with a binary answer is where the confusion sets in. Note other questions such as "Display and highlight available spells to cast with higher level spell slots" and "Coin do not count against your total weight carried" on the same page. It is a "yes or no" question, not an "either/or" question. Semantics, yes, but enough to breed the confusion that results in this topic having multiple threads.
Please remember that not everyone using the tool has the same knowledge base or experience. In my daily work, I deal with this sort of situation all the time. Clear and concise will never resolve all the issues, but it will resolve most of them.
It would be far more clear and concise to say, "Allow sources to be used for this character." Now use check boxes instead of an unlabeled slider. Far less ambiguous.

This is a fair point. Even if it is something you only get wrong once and can fix in 5 seconds, it should be clear from the start.
The definition of "greyed out" doesn't make anything more clear when the question is "allow or restrict". Are you Allowing with the switch to the right or are you Restricting with the switch to the right? The QUESTION, not the answer, is the problem.
It shouldn't take any time to figure it out. In fact, you should not have to figure it out at all. It is a basic question that shouldn't cause someone to hesitate.
Agreed, people do not like to think for themselves, opting to have everything spoon fed to them every step of the way. Our lives are so hard, lol. :)
Edit: I'll agree the line could be worded better, but I don't think it's that big of a deal. So many people on these forums make mountains out of molehills.

thanks,
If the toggle is grey, it is off. If it is red, it is on.

Allow on/off? Or restrict on/off?
The source is enabled and can be used if the toggle is red and on the right. If it is grey and on the left the source is disabled and cannot be used.
If it is grey, that means the source is not allowed.
If it is red, that means the source is allowed.
Hopefully the wording makes more sense.
Yeah, another good way to word it.

Thanks, all. It wasn’t as straight forward to others as well.
Appreciate the explanation, and would like to point out that this was unclear to me as well.
I pointed out it wasn't clear either. If it was green it would be less misleading to people who are not color blind.
The confusion is compounded by saying "Allow or restrict" with the switch pushed to the right not being restrict.
Remove "Allow or restrict" and make it a checkbox and it is x1000 clearer.

The color is the same as the color chosen for the character sheet.

Character sheet has nice checkboxes which would clear up all confusion if you used them
___
Even without changing to a checkbox you can make it easier to read by changing the text from
Allow or restrict sources to be used for this character.
to
Sources to be used for this character.

Verified and confirmed.... cause I was curious.

I figured it out in less than a minute when I started, that's just my take on it. I'm not sure why it gives people so much trouble.

Mountains out of molehills. I offered a solution that is literally changing the text to remove two words to remove ambiguity. Easy peasy.
