Just for fun and my own personal curiosity, what's the highest level y'all have reached?
I'm not talking about the highest level you've "played" so no level 20 one shots or high tier games starting at level 10.
I'm curious to how far people got starting at the beginning. For the sake of this poll, I'll say you can count campaigns that started at level 2 or 3 instead of 1 since its SUCH a common thing to do.
Im the DM, but my group has gone from level 1 to 14 thus far. We are trying to get to level 20, but its been a few years since we've started and life happens so we may not make it.
I've hit L13 as my highest, but I'm currently homebrewing an adventure develop a plot point that emerged spontaneously in the campaign, and that will take us to L20. Since you used past tense I've put L13, but hopefully it'll be L20 in a while.

If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.
A few campaigns under the belt (mostly as a DM), my highest was finished at lv 15. I generally finish between 12-15 (mostly on the lower side).
I've run a couple one-shots on lv20, but they all seem kinda a boring and it's just too much work on the DM side to make them half as interesting as the lower tiers.
Currently, I am running 2 campaigns, one should finish around lv 12-13, but the other, the players are adamant about getting to lv 20, let's see how it goes.
In my campaign that hit 20, I just stopped caring about the idea of "Balancing an encounter" shortly after level 15 lol
I just looked at enemies that would make sense for story and threw them in there regardless of CR. 5 CR 17's? Sure whatever! 3 CR 22's at the same time? They'll figure it out!
once tier 4 rolls around, the players have SOOOOOOO much they can individually do, that a party (especially mine with 6 people) will generally ALWAYS have a solution to most problems. As a DM, I just started finding fun in seeing what ridiculous ability that slipped my mind would they use to overcome whatever lol
Our group finished a major story beat, leveled up to 11, and then the campaign ended there to start doing something different (for scheduling reasons among other things.)
So I finished with my Arcane Trickster taking a second level of Wizard for Bladesong and whip proficiency, but never got to actually use it :/
I didn't do this through a campaign, but I reached 20 on my oneshot character on the oneshot server I'm on. From 1 all the way to 20, I spent about ~60-ish sessions with him? 50-ish? Each lasting a 2 hour minimum to be added towards my session total. I gained several of my 79 sessions with him from being a DM tho. xP

"Play the game however you want to play the game. After all, your fun doesn't threaten my fun."
I know the feeling. My group made it 1-20 once, but the next one fell short at 16 due to life stuff too lol.

lol yeah, that's the approach I am thinking on going if they are really determined to go beyond (They're level 7 now, 4 months into play).
Tarrasque + 2 Demon Lords + 2 Arch Devils on a 4 way battle with the party? Sure, why not...
Yeah they'll figure something out lol
SOMEONE has something that'll work!

Level 20. That is where the game gets interesting, as you continue to “level” by adding epic boons and fight stuff worth fighting.
-Votes in the poll-
-Finds out my answer is the lowest level-
Why does every campaign I join crash and burn!?! (3 campaigns ending prematurely at levels 2, 2 and 3)
Meanwhile the campaigns I DM have lasted 9 sessions (level 7) and 27 sessions (level 10) and ongoing.
My highest level reached so far is Lvl 7, but the campaigns on hiatus right now. (we started at Lvl 1)
As a player or as a dm? I've played through level 7, but dmed through level 12.
Only spilt the party if you see something shiny.
