I was wondering this myself when I realized how long it's been since we've had one. WOTC may prefer the Apple model. I'm sure Joe doesn't the break lol
Also curious about this. I know not much changes from week to week and updates to the site are sure to be even slower during the transition into WoTC systems, but they helped keep things fresh and maintained the optics of work being done.
"Officially over" as in DDB has issued some statement saying "we're not doing them anymore"? Not to my knowledge.
I'm guessing WotC is still trying to figure out how to integrate DDB into WotC's own messaging practices. There's been some new things since the merger, I like DDB being used as a exclusive content drop site (a spelljammer mini-bestiary, Vecna dossier, the Radiant Citadel peak), but WotC generally doesn't do the sort of real time community engagement practices that the dev update performed. Not saying it's gone, but with MellieDM gone and I don't know if Joe's done much content since the acquisition, I don't know who would be running the updates.

I mean, as far as I'm concerned they are over.
We used to get less than 24 hours notice, which I complained about. There hasn't been any notice since May 26 on their twitter, it's not listed on the schedule on their twitch page and it's been what, almost 2 months(may 6 was the last one iirc)?
Not really surprised though since communication has never been a strong suit.
They've gone into content creation, which is fine! I need to emphasize that it's fine. What isn't is when you had something people expected on a weekly basis to shut down and then give zero notice about it. The excuses about reorgs are just flat wrong.
I miss the weekly update and made time for it. I'd say they frequently didn't have much to talk about weekly but a new Monthly update format would satisfy me.

My concern is that development is completely frozen. Those of us who were watching the updates this year kept hearing that generic features were being tested, and that we could expect to see them on our sheets soon. I was hoping they'd get that done and move on to effects tracking THIS YEAR some time. Now that seems very unlikely. Frankly, I'll be surprised if we see generic features this year. An article, forum post, or some other communication to indicate that things haven't simply stopped moving forward would be most welcome.
Well it could also be that WotC officially took over D&D Beyond - so there may be some transition period? And this was probably being planned for awhile, long before it was probably officially announced - so everything probably went on hold until all of that was squared away.

There will have been a period where development was paused as the new bosses trawl through all the projects and decide what's worth continuing and what goes against their vision. That may well have finished by now.
The lack of updates should not be taken as a sign that it's still frozen or that development has stopped. Development will continue, and they could easily have decided that updates aren't worth the hassle. Or they could be collating everything for super update as they present their vision for DDB.
We'll see.

Did I miss an announcement? I hadn’t realized MellieDM was no longer on staff.
You did not miss an announcement. One day she no longer had a red title, some time later she announced on her twitter she is working at Demiplane with Adam Bradford.

Thanks for filling me in. Since she split her time between DDB & Cortex, I wondered what would happen to her position here with the acquisition by WOTC.
Are there going to be more dev updates or have those officially ended?
