Trying to figure out how to create a homebrew weapon that does 2d8 cold bonus damage on a critical hit (but not otherwise). Also trying to create another weapon that heals 1d4 on hit. Any ideas on how to do either?
Because of the logic of D&D Beyond programming and not being able to recognize certain actions/responses/enemies, what you're describing would need to be entered into the description of the item, and remembered by the player.
I could see things like this being implemented in the future, but as of right now, there's not a feature that accommodates this.
At least from what I'm aware of.

You're not going to be able to attach it to the weapon, but once a character has the weapon they can create custom actions on the character sheet. That way, it's just two clicks to get the dice rolls you want. (Same thing has to be done for official weapons like flame tongue or vicious.) As Ggeckos said, it's just not possible at the moment, even for non-homebrew that do something similar.
A bit late to this, but as of now there's an easier way to do it. When you're making the homebrew item and filling out the description, just say that it does an extra 2d8 cold damage on crits in there. When you view the item in your inventory, the extra damage should come up in bold lettering and have the tiny clickable die next to it that will roll the additional dice. It still doesn't auto apply it as most of us would like, but for me, it's better than cluttering the action bar since I'm in a campaign that heavily uses custom items.

That only works if you are using a 3rd party browser extension such as Beyond20. It won’t actually work that way in DDB’s system, and that extension occasionally messes things up on DDB for users.
I know a lot of users who wouldn't be using DDB if it wasn't for Beyond20 me included, it also implements some RAW features that DDB lacks. and I've seldom seen any issue caused by Beyond20
