If the dm purchased the subscription, and the player has the books, can the player share the books as well?
Sure, the only things needed are someone with the DM subscription and someone with the books bought from the DDB marketplace in the same campaign with content sharing activated, it doesn't have to be the same person :)

It doesn't have to be the DM that has the subscription. A player in the campaign can share their purchased content with the rest of the players, even if they're not the DM. Whoever wants to share, though, has to have the subscription. (Only them, though. The rest of the people involved don't need to.)
I'm currently in a campaign as a player, and I'm sharing my content with the rest of the campaign. I have a subscription, and nobody else, including the DM, has one.
Can you share your bought classes for character creation?
Yes. Any content anyone in the campaign owns gets shared by default (though the person who enables sharing can block individual sources if so desired), it doesn’t have to be a complete book. The exception is books that are bought in the compendium version: that means you get to read them, but they won’t show up in any of the tools.

Want to start playing but don't have anyone to play with? You can try these options: [link].
let me focus right now on the critical role content. so I checked that I enabled that; which I did. There are missing dunamancy spells that are not available that I might want my players to have available; they cannot be found when I try to add spells to the PCs. Examples: Cantrip "Sapping Sting"; 1st Level "gift of alacrity"
Let me reexamine the PHB content.
Also, class options like Echo Knight for Fighter is not visible in character builder. Might I hope that those are tied to levelling up to those levels and then having the choice?
Don’t forget the dunamancy spells don’t get added to the main wizard spell list, they’re only available to the new Arcane Traditions added in the Wildemount book. Though you can gain access to them via things like a bard’s Magical Secrets.
The sub class options only appear in the character builder when you reach the appropriate level for the particular class, so only clerics get to pick ar first level, most kick in at third.

To add to Dawnsong’s excellent answers: if you want Dunamancy or Graviturgy spells to be available to other Wizard subclasses, you will need to make homebrew copies and add Wizard to the “available to classes” box. While lots of homebrewing is complex, this is a simple change that can be done quickly and easily.
I came to that same conclusion after playing around with a test PC that I levelled up.
Thanks for that, Dawnsong.
Arwen's Daughter, will give your recommendation a try and let you all know:

What happens if the subscription expires/is cancelled? Are the players not in possession of the book not allowed use the content of the book anymore? Or once shared all party members have access to that books content going forward regardless of active subscription?

All shared content already on their sheets stays there, although if they remove it they can’t get it back. They can’t access addition items (spells, monsters, magic items, etc)that used to be shared. I’m. It sure how well things work when a character levels up if their subclass was shared content.
I just added my friend to our current game but his player handbook is an older version so I want to share my one with him on here. How do I do that?
Hi TracySayers! o/
To share marketplace purchased content you need a couple of things:
Hope this helps :)

I have bought the PHB and the new guide to Wildemount.
No content appears for any PC I create or modify.
I have enabled content sharing and done the few specific things suggested including turning it of and then on again, but all to no avail.
This is a major reason I am subscribing. If this does not work, there is much less use to this sub. Not clear on what is wrong.
Please help.
For Wildemount content, the Critical Role toggle must be turned on (red).
can you give some examples of PHB content you aren’t able to access?
