Hi there, as a dm I recently gave my players a month of downtime. I told them that they can, in this month, add one free feat(if it makes sense to the character), one free skill proficiency or one free weapon proficiency(again, if it makes sense to the character). Is there a way aside from manually adding it to their sheet after printing it to add these to your sheet?
There is currently no way todo that short of Homebrew magic items granting the desired feat and skill proficiency.
Soon enough a character sheet revamp will be released (still no ETA, but should be within this month), and there you will be able to grant additional feats, skills etc directly in the digital character sheet without need for workarounds.

Clearly this didn't actually happen. Is there any word on when/if I will be able to grant my party a Feat or Skill Proficiency without having to create a magic item?

It did happen. Go to Features and Traits > Feats > Manage Feats
For skills, select the gear at the bottom of the skills list

As for adding skills, you don't even need a feat for that. You can customise your skills directly on sheet. I made a video going over many of the custom and ad-hoc stuff you can do. It's long but has timestamps to get where you want. This here should hopefully start at the section on Skills:
