Finesse. When making an attack with a finesse weapon, you use your choice of your Strength or Dexterity modifier for the attack and damage rolls. You must use the same modifier for both rolls.
Monk Weapons
Martial Arts
At 1st level, your practice of martial arts gives you mastery of combat styles that use unarmed strikes and monk weapons, which are short swords and any simple melee weapons that don’t have the two-handed or heavy property.
You can use Dexterity instead of Strength for the attack and damage rolls of your unarmed strikes and monk weapons.
Would a monk weapon (in the hands of a monk) have the Finesse property? it does not use the word Finesse but both allow the use of either Strength or Dex. Would a Monk be able to use its monk weapon with the defensive duelist feat? What about a monk/rogue would it trigger sneak attack?

Whilst there are similarities, they are not the same thing.
