I think they're referring to the 3.5e splat books of the same name. If I remember correctly, they focused entirely on character options for good and evil characters.
Personally I much prefer 5e's slower approach with books like XGtE, adding fewer but well-tested options for all characters over a ton of really niche books.
I was talking about those books for 3.5 of the same name. I love the in-depth look at morality and the truly epic struggles of gods, saints, demons, and villains. It could honestly probably be put into one book but I feel it adds amazing options for the DM. I honestly thought more people felt as I do, it's interesting to see otherwise.
This is hardly a good cross-section of public opionon, but I suspect many people like not feeling compelled to keep up with every supplement splat book WotC releases. Of course, a bunch of people have come into D&D since 3.5, as well, so have no memory of that era.

Those are in the DMG for 5e already.
