alrighty... three people in my game group are going to cause me hypertension. I typically am looking for a game that is overall serious high fantasy, but i'm playing in a game with... let me just give you the names of their characters
literally "the name's bond, james bond" (doesn't even pay any attention)
"Gojira" (on his phone the whole time, went off and just strait up left in the middle of a session)
"Com Rade" (psycho gnome that eats people, came from russia)
and there's no other groups in town, and i have no friends, and the other table, well, there was a didgeridoo and a ukulele rendition of megalovainia.
If it were me in this group, I'd leave and take my chances elsewhere. If the game you're isn't what you're looking for, you're gonna be miserable every time you play. You can try online games, but depending on where you live you can find other games. If you have a local gaming store, hang out there and ask the staff if they know of any games going. If they have a D&D night, go play and meet new folks. From there you might be able to start your own game with the people you meet there.
The only downside to D&D is that you need other people to play. Sometimes those other people suck. But they aren't the only people in the world.

I'm kinda stuck on why you are permitted to post and converse with strangers on forums but are not allowed to play online? You're basically doing the same thing either way: interacting with people you don't know online, which is actually safer than interacting with people you don't know offline which you clearly are allowed to do. Why would you be allowed to post conversationally to people in a forum but in the same forum not be allowed to play a play-by-post game: you're still just posting to a forum. It can't be "because D&D" because it takes more investment, time and involvement to play in-person than it does on the forum.
This makes no sense. O.o
But, er, anyway, yeah. Have a word with the DM or leave the group. Maybe create your own group.

Talk to the DM. Explain the problem your having. See if he/she will help address the issues before leaving. If no help is forth coming. Time to hit the road.
it's at a game store, so i'm not sure if i should whine in public sans the mask of internet anonymity
Just ask if you can have a private chat. Go outside. Talk.

People have already made great points about finding other games, talking to the DM and/or talking to the owners/employees at your LGS. I'm just curious, are you not supposed to be playing D&D at all? I will second (or third or whatever) that you could play by post here on the forums just as you created/posted here, unless you're also not supposed to be on this site and you're concerned about being caught.

"No D&D is better than bad D&D".
Seriously. It sounds like the only options you have is find another local group, or consider playing online (roll20 is worth a look).
I’m not allowed to play online
I did NOT eat those hikers.
Very useful! Thanks
I did NOT eat those hikers.
Can you play by post in a forum?

I did NOT eat those hikers.
just to clarify
I did NOT eat those hikers.
Yep, time to walk. This group is obviously not what you're looking for in a game.
Try the new sidekick rules for 1-on-1 play?

If you can post in these forums, you can play in them. How are your parents going to know the difference?
