I am torn on the functionality of the DnD Beyonds Campaign Page and the DM/Player notes sections. I feel like it is an attempt to give DM's a place to enter campaign and story information but without a folder system its really just a long long continuous scrolling page with no way to organize the information your entering.
The player note section s a great way to recap sessions for players but again its just a continuous scroll.
How are you using these features or what are you using as an alternative ( I am just talking about DND Beyond tools not sites outside of the DnD Beyond eco system like google docs etc..)
I don't use the Campaign page at all, except as a quick way to open a player's character sheet if I need a quick look at something. I setup campaigns so that I can share content and because it makes using the encounter builder much quicker and easier, otherwise I find the campaign page itself to be largely useless, and I use Foundry for notes, etc.
Do you think DDB will create a tool for us DM's who wantto keep everything under one hood? Right now I am balancing Campaign info, Encounters, Characters, Home Brew NPC's ( another feature that could use a simple filing system), Homebrew magic items.
With the Virtual Table I am sure it will become important to have easy access to notes and such in game as we play.
I certainly hope they will. There was a good deal of talk, before the WotC/Hasboro purchase, that they were going to work on a digital DM screen. But like many things that were on the radar at that time, it quietly fell off the radar completely. So, while it would make a lot of sense to me, who knows if WotC will do anything to expand on it's features and capabilities. Given their less than stellar communications about most plans and development around the site, I imagine we won't hear anything until it just shows up one day (if it ever does).
I used it to hold the campaign specific rules. Like free feat at level 1 or bonus action to drink a potion you have. Stat generation. Allowed or banned races, feats, subclasses, etc. Basically the rules of your game. Is it in writing? Put it on your campaign page.
Maybe the first prompt that leads party to the Initial Inn in Starting Pointe, Faerun to meet your quest giver.
I also use it to link to the description pages of all the homebrew in my collection. Since most of it is private homebrew, only people in the campaign can view the description page. Your players are the only people with access to see your creations. Give them a list they can look through. Say you're playing a Sprouting Chaos campaign and have homebrewed all of the subclasses, spells, and races from that book, your player might be interested in the Piercing Thorn cantrip:
You hurl a magical piercing thorn at a creature within range. Make a ranged spell attack against the target. On a hit, the target takes 2d4 piercing damage, and the thorn lodges itself into the creature for the duration or until the thorn explodes.
If the creature is hit by a spell of 1st level or higher, the thorn absorbs some of the spell’s magical power and explodes into a rain of thorns, dealing 1d4 piercing damage to the creature. All creatures within a 5 ft radius of the creature must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 1d4 piercing damage as well.
This spell's initial damage and explosion damage increases by 1d4 when you reach 5th level (3d4/2d4), 11th level (4d4/3d4), and 17th level (5d4/4d4).
- Sprouting Chaos Player's Companion p. 18
The campaign page is the place to put that link so they can see from themselves.
I actually do record the house rules being used on the campaign page for easy reference. I agree a better organized system for campaign management would be wonderful for DnDBeyond to add.
Is there a way to use anchor id links within the campaign text editor so that the DM can jump to their own chapter headings? I tried multiple ways but without success.
You can use the HTML button to manually add anchor tags with names and then use the 'insert/edit link" button to add a link to it using the 'anchors' field. (Note: the anchors dropdown will only appear in the add/edit link popup once you have at least one named anchor tag placed.)

[Edit to fix typo.]
This makes me sad.
