Hi! This is my first thread. I am about to start my first campaign and I need help! I wanted to do a mix between elves and humans for race but can you mix classes and how would that effect the character? I was thinking a mix of wizards and fighter. What do you guys think? Please help!
Dndnewter had suggested this in a separate thread and I was thinking about this too. What if when I did a multiclass character and split the levels 50/50? Would it make a positive or negative effect?

In addition to this, what would the spectral rules about multiclass characters be?
a "half human half elf" would just be a half-elf and multiclassing is something you can do. you just have to decide which levels will go into wizard and which will be fighter. (example:odd levels,ie 1,3,5 ect,are wizard, and even,ie 2,4,6 ect are fighter. or you can go 2 wiz 2 fighter ect) its up to you.
l recommend useing D&D beyonds character maker,l never made a character b4,but this site made it easy! Also, best of luck in your (first?) game!
So a half-elf fighter/wizard multiclass? Sounds good. I recommend splitting the levels differently though.
Maybe only do 2 or 3 levels of fighter and the rest Wizard. That way you get all the wizard's big spells, but still benefit from the weapon and armor proficiencies of the fighter.
Alternatively you could just be a bladesinger Wizard.
Also, you can edit a post. You don't have to post a new reply to fix a typo.

Bladesinger?
lf you have not bought any of the books on this site you likely wont find it in the character maker, but most skills have different sub types. this is one of the wizard subtypes.
Bladesinging is a wizard subclass from SCAG. It gets proficiency in light armor and 1 one-handed weapon of choice (choose rapier) and can use a bonus action to start a bladesong which gives a bonus to AC equal to INT, increases speed by 10, and a bonus to concentration checks equal to INT. They also get extra attack at level 6.

Bladesinger?
That makes sense so I could do all the big advantages of a wizard while still having some of the advantages of fighters.
One of my favorite gish builds I call the Artifizard. 3 levels artificer (battle Smith for max gish) and 17 levels wizard (any subclass you want, but it actually doesn't mix that well with bladesinging).
I can't buy anything so I'll probably will do what you suggested and do 2-3 and 17-18
Maybe someone you will be playing with will share their books. If you are playing with just the free subclasses, I recommend fighter 2/wizard X. The free fighter subclass is meh, but action surge at level 2 is great for wizards.
If you get at least the PHB shared to you, you may be fine playing a pure fighter eldritch knight. They start getting spells at level 3, but also benefit from the fighter's martial might. As it is your first character, keeping it simple isn't a bad idea, but you can add wizard levels down the road to get stronger magic.
Also, can you a, help me think of a cool name for it and maybe b, held me figure your how to form my character?
well, maybe base the character on you? like dont make it a carbon copy of you,but give it some of your traits, like lf you have long hair, give it long hair,or if you are female, make her a woman,or any number of things, thats the fun of a roll playing game, you can be whoever you want!
I would recommend 3 level fighter at first to gain the proficiencies in armor and weapons, as an Eldritch Knight archetype, and do bladesinger wizard for about 13 levels. In total, be level 7 fighter, and level 13 wizard. This way you still get 7th level spells, and 9th level spell slots (but not any 9th level spells), and you can cast a spell and attack twice in the same round (from either using multiattack and a bonus action spell, or an green flame blade or booming blade as an action, and a bonus action attack).
If you have to use D&D Beyond and can't buy anything you can just use the subclasses available to you, but the build won't be that good. I would recommend finding a PDF of Player's Handbook and Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide to get the eldritch knight fighter and bladesinger wizard and weapon spells, but just make do with what you can use.

Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:

You would only have level 8 spell slots with this build. You divide the fighter levels by 3. So this is a level 15 spellcaster.
The deepest you can go into fighter (eldritch knight) and still get level 9 slots is 4.

here are some links to info about half elves and multiclassing. l hope this helps!
ps,its DnDNewper, not DnDNewter. (newper is short for new person, cause when l made this account,l was new to dnd, hence the name)

I'm bad at names (I have a black cat named Blackie).
As for making the character you can probably figure it out yourself with this: https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/builder#
well, maybe base the character on you? like dont make it a carbon copy of you,but give it some of your traits, like lf you have long hair, give it long hair,or if you are female, make her a woman,or any number of things, thats the fun of a roll playing game, you can be whoever you want!
When I said name I mean something like artifizard.
Oh. Uh... Fightzard? Wizter? Maybe smushing two class names together wont work this time. Warzard? Sword mage?
Typically, martial spellcasters are just called Gish.

Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
Spells, Monsters, Subclasses, Races, Arcknight Class, Occultist Class, World, Enigmatic Esoterica forms
Also, I may need to pick one or the other ( like only elf and only wizard) since this is my first game. Which one?
