I'm rolling a half-orc fighter for the first time, but the idea of being a super serious "heavy" seems a little boring from a roleplaying perspective. The fighter always struck me as sort of the jock of the party, so I was thinking of embellishing that with his flaws, making him have a really stunted sense of humor.
As far as acting that humor out, I've had a few ideas, but wanted to see what ya'll thought and if you had any ideas to expand on it. One possibility would involve me buying a can of "Flarp!" (Fart in a can) and making subtle fart squeaks at inopportune times. Also yelling "ball tap" and making party members roll Dex saving throws to avoid taking minor damage while adventuring seems on brand as well.
Have any of you tried anything similar? How did it go over? What suggestions would you have for RPing an immature, lowbrow character without going overboard or lessening the experience of your fellow players?
Having both played and DM'd for a similar character I would caution you that these types of antics can get very tiresome for your party mates. If used sparingly and at opportune times to make some comic relief it can play pretty well but doing it all the time and causing what should be a pretty straight forward encounter to become a PITA gets irritating. Having funny moments is great just make sure you aren't derailing the party's purpose at the expense of it.

I think that is great advice! I'll try and work on some additional character traits so that doesn't become the centerpiece of the character!
If you want to make a "funny" character, it usually goes a lot further if you make your own character the proverbial butt of the jokes instead of trying to "prank" everyone else. All in all though, make sure that there is more to your character than just "BRO DUDE! BRO! DUDE! BRO! DUDE BRO!" If you want fighter/jock type characters that are funny but not too annoying, take a look at Thor and Peter Quill from the MCU.

I think those suggestions are spot on! I'll have to revisit those in preparation!

Hmm...how about an orc who would always talk about "Getting their rocks off" with his buddies.
..in this case, however, it was literally chucking giant rocks down upon unsuspecting merchant caravans along the roadside.
